Thread regarding AT&T Inc. layoffs

It's all a load of...

Everything read on this site has been total BS. All the "big announcement on 'x' date" has proven time-and-time again to be untrue fear-mongering. Unless it is definitely happening and completely reliable, don't post it. It helps no one to spread fear.

I agree it all phony and the 32 people in my center who were laid off 2 weeks ago were really just moved to a secret room.

The fool who posted this must be a VP trying to quiet the discussion

Considering ATT has layoff calls every Tuesday 52 weeks out the year, says it's a consistent threat at ATT to wonder when your time is coming.

This is Aa place where you can share your ideas, something you can't and shouldn't if you want to keep your job at AT&T

I'm a bargained employee and one thing I tell both management and non management is that it doesn't matter what job you had when the company cuts. What matters is what you will do going forward.

To suggest that this site is 100% false suggests discontent at some level. I'm an l2. And there is no doubt that at the leadership level this site potentially causes heart burn esp with posts about class action inquiries and exec compensation issues with c suite who proves little value in relationship to new innovation and value creation. These and other information portals are game changers. It even allows middle managers to express discontent, mobilize and share info.

What others may want to see is in fighting pitting older workers against younger ones (with some directors that I know stating surplus are the lifer's fault) and bargained against unbargained. On this site we should be one AT&T. Promoting Infighting is a diversion tactic.

Lol, right. Many of the folks on here are managers. No one is unhappy that everyone has access to this site. On the contrary, we all appreciate the many connections and information sharing that the site provides.

Look I realize there is some bad blood between some managers and some bargained for folks in certain regions. And I'm sorry if that's the case with you and your manager. But that just isn't the case everywhere. Most folks just don't care. We're all AT&T employees.

@2b1b that is so true... this is true empowerment. And I guess it pisses a lot of people off.

The OP is from our management - they are collectively pissed as we finally have a way to organize, share info and act upon it. We may not or cannot be able to control things but we can have access to more information which in turns helps us make better decisions for ourselves.

Up until now (and layoffs.com) all info was centralized in hands of management, now workers can see patterns and use that info to deduce what needs to be deduced

Yeah I think lashing out and thinking truth means fear means fear mongering is just another way for those in denial to protect themselves ....it's weird but at some point you have to feel sorry for op...but whatever helps u sleep at night I guess.i find the denial sadder. It's already been said that their was a violinist on the titanic who continued to play while the ship was sinking.....and people were leaving

The predictions for Indirect sales employees were 90% true. Dates, organization and percentages given months in advance that were exactly correct. This site helped many people prepare for the future and save money for a pending layoff.

Some analysts see ATT broadening scope as a liability, a job killer, "We would rather ATT focus on the business they know—they may have built the best Telecom business on the planet—and let investors figure out where to invest in content ( Yahoo) separately," New Street Research wrote in a report. As of the beginning of the year, ATT had 39% of telecom industry revenue but just 17% of industry spectrum, according to the firm, a gap in capacity that is starting to show signs of strain.

That's not the truth. Companies that retain their employees through a recovery retain their competitiveness, just like Brain & co, guideline, Facebook, Google, and I can go on and on, Companies that offshore are losing that competitiveness, that loyal employee -- you are losing the stability of a team in the long term, this is AT&T and they are quite efficient at that.

As a project managers I put a lot of weight on loyalty. The premise is that a firm's IT employees will be adaptable and will act in the best interest of the company. You don't think that's true for offshore resources? Think about that for a minute..... Exactly, yes. When you offshore your knowledge, the person that you train will take your technical and business strategy knowledge and work for your competitors when they offshore their stuff. You never get a loyal, stable team offshore. Long-term, you are better off to keep your employees and use offshore for short-term work.

Everything on this blog site is not BS. There are many truths thoughout these threads. There are some rumors reported here but trust me that runs rampant at at&t. It is an extremely toxic environment. Executive management is out of touch and are not trusted. If you think nothing is true on this site, keep living in la-la land. That's really the happiest place to be when you work at at&t.
