So once again he admits wireline will never go away. As for the 1.8GB speed - I'd love to see that theoretical speed matched in a real world environment. At best this 5G stuff will be the B Grade broadband/television choice for customers looking to save a few bucks. Wires are still king.

So speeds faster than 1.5Gps cant carry FiOS? Seriously? Never mind current speeds reach 3.7Gbps.... This is why fibered fios has stopped being rolled out. The whole thing will be done over wireless networks. Wireline will only be there to connect fiber to cell sites and service rural code lines....and it will be called Frontier by then anyway.
Blah, blah, blah. 5G seems great for urban environments (in theory), but it still hits all the problems of the mm frequency spectrum they plan on using. Infrastructure costs are going to be huge. Rural areas had better not hold their collective breath. Lowell is even quoted in the article about the additional need for fiber:

McAdam said that pairing those connections with Verizon's 60,000 towers nationwide gives the opportunity to launch nationwide 5G. "So if you start using the towers as the hub then you just spoke fiber off of that to get into the towns across the US you've got the ability," he said.
Yeah, it may be coming to an urban area near you in experimental form by 2020, but with inter-site distances of 75m-100m the wide-area coverage is still a work in progress. You can read Nokia's wite paper here:

Massive click bait site. Anyway...I don't care if it's Verizon,Frontier or Derp's telecom. The network won't disappear over night. I remember a time when projections were being made where jersey was going to be 100% fios within 7 years of starting that project. 12 years later and the more things change,the more they stay the same.

As for "jumping the ship", I'm fairly certain that Verizon will take care of that one for us by the end of this contract.

Contract means nothing if executives still don't want to invest in wireline.....they only care about wireless ...and the shareholders....even though their pay is based primarily on stock options.....so when they mention shareholders ....they really mean themselves........
