"I can't ever imagine white collared IT workers joining any union. "

This train of thoughts is - amongst other things - what brought the country that we live in where it is now, which is not a good place.

Automotive engineers' unions. Junior doctors' (as they call them in the UK) unions. A ton of "white collared" folks unionized all over Europe. With real power. In countries whose standard of living often surpasses our own. Is the life perfect over there? Far from it. But let's not be blind to the world that is surrounding us. We might be able to learn something and improve our own existence.

"The salaried, educated, trained, skilled IT and salaried whatever do not worry in the least about being released from the company. "

I'd highly question this line of thinking. Salaries in the IT world have gone down tremendously over the past 10-15 years due to market being somewhat saturated as well as to overall economy being in the toilet allowing companies to blackmail their potential new hires. Not to even touch the entire H1B scam that has gotten so popular over the last few years. There are some people still making serious amounts of money in this game, but nowhere near where it was at Y2K. Not by a long stretch.

@1vlu .. get over it. The salaried, educated, trained, skilled IT and salaried whatever do not worry in the least about being released from the company. They have far more opportunities than we craft employees.

From what I hear they do not want to be in a Union. They have skills and an education they can take to a huge number of companies on this planet and have a job in a few weeks of leaving a job.

All you it guys and gals need to wake up cause 90% of your jobs will be gone in a couple of years ,unless you speak Hindi, that is a fact ,so if you think that you are aka a professional keep on thinking that way ,maybe once they tell you you are going to be replaced by a Hb1 or your dept is moving out of the country, then and then only will you say to yourself ,man this company really doesn't care about me I'm just a number..

We don't want those kissasses in the Union. They had their chance to organize and chose not too. Hopefully most get the boot.

My spouse is EWA. At my job there is CWA for ..lower level jobs. I interviewed for an upper mgmt job and my ask I asked them was why should I want to work for them instead of staying where I was being covered by the union contract. The response I got was "because up here we are professionals and we don't babysit anyone." I can't ever imagine white collared IT workers joining any union. Just my opinion.
