Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

After all the company rhetoric that we are going to be replaced, that the strike is going to last 6 months or more, this proves scabs can not do

what we do . They can not replace us that easily. 40k salesmen or 40k anti-salesmen. They need us. Vote how You feel. Power in numbers. Stay strong.

"Just need a contract so the company can unload Wireline per the plan. Let someone else deal with the union."

And that's exactly what most of us on the union side pray for. We're sick and tired of McAdam's version of Verizon and I'm certain that the feeling is mutual.

"Let's be fair. Anyone with about a month's training and several weeks of apprenticeship would be able to do that work."

I'm scared of what's awaiting for us when I read ignorant comments like this one. Then again, we managed to get the service up after Sandy, you guys couldn't have done much worse than that. Or maybe I'm being optimistic here. Remains to be seen.

"most managers make 2x, 3x even 4x what an associate makes, even counting OT. "

Huh. No. Most 1st levels way under 2x the sum, even before OT on the associates' part. Second levels are nowhere near 3x. No clue on directors and above, but they're definitely not "most managers".

Let's be fair. Anyone with about a month's training and several weeks of apprenticeship would be able to do that work. It's not very complicated, but you have to have an inclination to do the job. Fortunately, the managers don't have to do OT to pump up their earnings, most managers make 2x, 3x even 4x what an associate makes, even counting OT. And they should, most work very very hard.

Union fantasy- "I will make that money back" yeah okay, as if you weren't going to work that OT anyway. lol±--+-+++--- probably not going to have much of a summer left after this forced ot

Well it was likely not that simple. Complicated for both sides.

Reality- Workers in NY going on unemployment with CWA relief fun was lost leverage for the company. They needed people to cross lines in under six weeks.

Union fantasy- "my jerb is so important no one can do it". "without me the company doesn't exist" "I built it and you have to continue to pay me forever"

Reality- Cost go up on the company for time lost at EWA jobs.

Company EWA idiot- "I can do your dumb job and mine at the same time with sh--ty pay and no benefits" "I'm more important and more needed"

Reality -Lost pay of nearly ten thousand dollars goes a long way in closing the gap between union and company.

Union fantasy- "I will make that money back" yeah okay, as if you weren't going to work that OT anyway. lol

I can go on but it is likely wasted on the majority that view the site. lol

IBEW likely to go back for lack of unemployment benefits and relief funds.

Agreed. But if big red thinks cutting head count is going to do them any favors next go around he's mistaken. Despite the lack of coverage on the networks he has awakened a movement that will not be forgotten.

No...there areare wireline buyout offers coming to the table. Needed a settled contract before Verizon can entertain them.

There's also a world of difference between what Lowell thinks about American jobs, American workers, and what Americans think about the same

There's a world of difference between a real skilled union like ours and one that represents easier work. Looks like Lowell found that out.
