Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

ONLY 2 months? UP to 4!

We haven't been on strike for 2 months and the company is falling apart, what do you think would happen to families in that period?

Is asking they hire people where they are needed unreasonable?

We don't have an IT department in our area, help desk is in India and contractors replace the computers. In some cases they now have system techs (UNION) doing the IT work. Zero IT verizon employees.

Didn't the lastest bestest finalest offer ever include only 2 months travel per year.

HBPC144 I completely agree. This country is going to sh-- and it's going fast. The one thing I've seen mentioned a lot is how much Lowell makes...he's not even the highest paid its: sprint, att, t-mobile, then verizon. It's not justification of any kind, but it should be realism that fighting corporate greed means that ALL corporate greed should be fought...not just one.

I disagree. What they need to do is hire more people. It seems to me that if they can hire all these temps on the drop of a dime that they can do the same when they need to build out an area. They want to move us around to burden our lives and our families lives in order to make us quit. Nobody in my garage was hired after 2003. Youngest seniority is 13 years and most are closer to 20 years of service. They are trying to appease Wall Street and squeeze every living breath out of their workers and it's wrong. This country is going to sh-- and companies like Verizon are to blame!

Profit numbers are meaningless without how the profits are being used. If being used for executive bonuses, well, every business does that...hence the entire bailout that we all sufffered from. I'm not saying that it's right to relocate an individual for months on end, to me it isnt, but the flexibility is needed because of what our business entails. I don't know how to that would be easily resolved and if I did, no one would probably give damn...

Or even better a 30 day "go back" period where any volunteer could go back to their original work location if they want to. Obviously this would be for the smaller transfers , not the across state lines (I.e. NYC to Boston)

I don't know? Please inform us again. Cable vision, time warner, att, frontier all have unions. Verizon also makes more money than God. So please spare me the competition thing.

That's not true. I am happy with the amount I make. I don't need a raise. I just need a job. I learned long ago that money isn't everything. I was raised to value family and quality of life. Not money.

Yeah there is a need for flexibility.

They are competing with how many other carriers with no union overhead.

The thing about $$$$, it's never enough, for anyone.

That makes sense without this one fact. Verizon makes $1.5 billion in profit a month!!! They are competing just fine. There is no need for their needed "flexibility". It's just pure greed.
