Life in a public utility as a scab is not fun. Climb a pole and work 19 inches away from a 15k volt power line, when the coworkers spotting for you don't give a sh-- if you live or die. Back up your truck and scratch a highway barrier with your bumper and your co-workers tell your boss, "I think he was texting while he was backing up... I'm not sure, I don't like to hang around him, because he always seems like he's drunk or on drugs."
Show up 3 minutes late and no one in your crew covers for you, instead they all say, "sh--, we never look for him until 20 minutes after he's due to check in."
Call dispatch for help and a guy with a bucket shows up and looks at the 30-foot shell-rotted pole that's leaning 10 degrees and is festooned with poison sumac, and says, "No reason you can't trim that and then climb it," and then drives away.
