Possible scenario? Lockout while hiring

Once VZ hires enough temps/contractors+whoever crossed, and is able to manage backlog and installs, to some extent, do you think they can declare lockout while STILL hiring for tech positions?

Then union people would have to fight to get hired back while VZ will pick most experienced - just like in non-union world.

Public opinion much like a viral video on Youtube is not looking so well for Verizon. Union members are convincing people on the ground level too use another carrier. Version does like this because it will force another very costly public campaign to offset the negative sales locally for the VZ. Everyday the message that verizon makes WAY WAY too much money and then shipping jobs overseas is not good... In an interview with one Union member he said " Its very very hard to change public opinion and once a message out their its over for sales and public opinion". I would expect to see AT&T, and Sprint ramp up their publicity campaign to collect the business VZ shedding... All in all this looks rather folish of Verizon to continue a rather useless fight...

Lockout was discussed during the last strike, and the main issue is, after rehiring to fill positions - nothing stops the new workforce from unionizing, again in this backwards land that time forgot.

20% of Verizon workforce on strike, representing 10% of the total Vz revenue stream. Yeah, that flea on an elephant really is a problem, snarf.

Xae will soon be a new union shop with his successful business venture. 4X the profit out of the gate is amazing. Feel free to hand out some yard signs and flyers to get that set up so many brothers can share in this new pot of gold.

"Then union people would have to fight to get hired back while VZ will pick most experienced - just like in non-union world."

Not quite.

Yes, they could perform a lockout.

No, they wouldn't get to "pick and choose". If they were to lose an ULP charge in front of the NLRB, they would have to bring everyone back. If they won, everyone would stay locked out.

Each of these scenarios opens about a dozen additional cans of worms on legal level and that's why the company hasn't done it so far. Theoretically, they could keep the current workforce out forever without a lockout. Can it be done in the real world? Remains to be seen. Personally, I don't think that we're going to see anything along those lines.

Sure you have. Does it make you feel better telling yourself that all is well while in cyberspace?

Jethro, if all the positions are filled the why would the company need to lockout the union? Plain and simple, the union won't be back. It truly will be the strike of epic proportions.

Verizon will survive . the scabs will make some money . union will be back we may spend our savings but well be back . we will have less customers because they may not want to wait for service so they might go somewhere else . we will still get moved around to different areas hopefully with DTA and longer than a three year contract .
