Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

'After 25 or so years, off the top of my head, the various contracts are a bit blurred. I know that we had a lot of extensions of previous contracts while we negotiated. This time was different. Contract ended and we did not get extension. We tried for 10 months to negotiate. We were working with no contract. Remember all the new rules like loss of arbitration for discipline. I know vz gave us the right to arbitrate for our promise not to do roving economic strikes at major employment centers. We were told no official contract extension, but that the former framework would be honored. We also lost closed shop status during this time, and while we were working without a contract, vz was allowed to hire non Union workers to work side by side with us. That would not have worked to well though. As far as I know, this was something cwa said they had never done before. I still have the pre printed flyers " we're not on strike". Working without a contract.

The contract date will remain August 1st

There may be a retro raise or signing bonus

Either way it will apply to the period from 08/01/2015 to this coming week, or whenever contract is ratified

Wrong. We worked without a contract after the expiration of the 2003 one, which happened in 2008.

"If it goes back to last August and we won a raise for the current year, then the raise might get applied to whatever hours we put in before the strike."

I don't know where you're getting this idea from, but I can guarantee you that it's not going to happen.
