Lol...that's fine, I'm good with negotiating for myself. My job has changed in myriad interesting ways over the last 30 years, because it's not defined by what a union boss thinks I should be doing. Got laid off by a major telecom 15 years ago, wound up with a better job at VZ, and many better jobs since then. It's so nice to roll with industry changes rather than cling to a declining business model.

Because the company isn't going to hand over $hit to little ol' you if you try and bargain for yourself, they will pay you whatever they feel like. There is strength in numbers when it comes to bargaining power which you could never have bargaining by yourself.

Never gonna happen! The only people who care about unions are those shrinking number of workers in unions. The wireline business is the last hold out for unionized labor. Why would I want someone between me and my employer, when I can negotiate directly with the company- for free, no dues required- and go as far and as high in my career as my effort and intellect will allow? Unions exist to protect the lazy and unproductive. They are the reason most manufacturing jobs are now in other countries.
The New York metro is the wireless Union folks who consists of cell/switch techs and inventory specialists. They have always paid for their health benefits and no pensions. These aren't people who work at the wireless stores, these are people who are responsible for supporting the wireless network. They don't get paid $12 an hour.
true..Shelton in his statement said it paved the way for wireless unionization.. This is STRIKE 2 for Lowell. In 2011 he couldnt believe it when strikers picketed the stores and didn't know whether to sh%t or go blind. If you CWA had stayed out longer, you would have gotten a better deal then and I wished you had ! Then VZ thought they were being coy with their training plans this time around, but you just can't replace 40,000 people with unchecked, unvetted replacements in addition to mgmt EWA who are there for the paycheck and half probably lost the thrill after 4th week after realizing they are being set up to support grand scheme of the 1%. Congratulations CWA/IBEW. ... 'merica !
@tpj - you are wronf, the union wants wireless too because it is a large part of VZs footprint, the more the headcount the better for the union, and for the workers who get paid 12 bucks an hour on the wireless side.
@iis - they will join soon enough once they see their pay and benefits increase, it will catch like wildfire because they will want what their co-workers have. Why would someone want to settle for sub par pay and benefits when they can have better now?

You know they aren't getting a pension right? The only thing that has changed for the 160 wireless workers over the past few contracts is that the pay rate goes up a bit. The reason why they are still unionized is because of fear mongering by the union bosses telling them that they won't be safe if they do leave. The union used them as cannon fodder for the wireline's personal gain. I bet you won't go on strike for the wireless workers if they want a pension because you got what you wanted.
