It simply may be that Verizon purchased Yahoo. The only problem is ATT uses Yahoo for subscriber emails. Take a guess what will happen if ATT must pay Verizon for that.
att.net and all the previously purchased regional company's from Connecticut to California which still use their own addresses.

Yes, ignore posts that target emotions (fear, greed, etc) - however 5/27 has been posted here at least a dozen of times in different contexts. My manager brought it up as well, independently of what's on this site. I am not saying anything will happen, yet I hear it way too often to ignore it...

Maybe yahoo deal closed. Vz wanted it too and they already have aol. I'd bet the farm att outbid/overpaid.
