Thread regarding AT&T Inc. layoffs

after the storm

got my verbal on monday that i will be staying on and keeping my job. i am very sorry to all that was surplussed and best of luck to you in the future.

i will say however that when i found out who from our division was let go(about 30%), none of them were a surprise to anyone. they were always the lowest performers and not the best at what they did.

looks like in our department they just trimmed the fat and lowest producers.

Omg icwq....please preach the good news. This is what's happening with high performers who are also vocal about how their job should work. Layoffs aren't as quantitative as people would like to believe, if you have a high performing team - subjectivity plays a role too. Whose causing you some angst?? Whose rocking the boat? Whose not staying off the radar?? It can become very personal as my general counsel sibling told me: "if you think it's personal it most likely is".. And she's paid big money to protect her company from employee actions/lawsuits.

at my legacy directv site we had a few top performers chosen for layoffs so i'm not sure what the deciding factors were

I was one of those lucky individuals affected by the reorg and I can tell you that I was NOT a bottom performer in my entire tenure with the company. This was not a trim the fat situation as intended. At least not in my area. It was whether or not you were content with being silent and following others. There is a "new culture"?? Right. The new culture is just like high school and the cliques are meaner than ever. Had they severed the truly LOW PERFORMERS, those chosen would still be there (at least in my department). Thankfully, this was the best thing to happen to me. I cannot work for a company I cannot trust and cannot work with people that will step on others to get ahead or follow like herded sheep.

Right, leadership is the problem, my "boss lady@ ATO" did not have a college degree, bipolar, and well connected, that's pretty church AT@T in a nutshell

I didn't survive bloody Monday and I can tell you I was far from the lowest performer. My end of year review was far exceed. This was for sure favoritism!!!

Wow 30% of your org was "low performers"? That really doesn't add up dude. And if it is true, then you need new leadership...

Wow, the OP sure is nasty.

I'm a legacy DTV employee who also survived Bloody Monday, but many of my co-workers and friends did not, and they were hardly the lowest performers.

I honestly wish senior management would let us know what criteria they used in their decision, because the choice regarding who stays and who goes almost seems arbitrary,

However, as the OP proves, character and integrity were obviously not something used to determine who stays.

All it takes is one reor and/or additional work out of your knowledge base.

Or a new manager who doesn't like you...from your post your not coming off as like able. But it's cultural, you are the monster att created.

Sounds more like an opinion you have of your peers than an objective overview of the true story. I have survived 3 as well and I actually decided to volunteer this time, doesn't make sense to keep going through this knowing

a) you're not going to get promoted because they keep doing away with the road you were suppose to go up through

b) when you "trim the fat" of the lowest producers, you may eventually fall into that category. Why? Because naturally you would not have good without the bad. If everyone was good, you would not know what bad is and vise versa.

I agree with @wkw that this is an obvious troll attempt to put yourself on the high horse.

From how you write, I can tell you are probably an Account Executive. Understand, your territory may have had a 30% reduction but total cuts were 95% AE's. The rest were maybe a DOS and an ARSM or two. Doesn't bode well for your job going forward huh? You are the left over fat and will probably be fired for performance related reasons and not have a severance. :) good luck

Obvious troll. It takes a lot of class to pop in here and add your "i will say however . . ."

I've survived three of these reorganizations now - BARELY in at least one case - and have seen many fine, hard working coworkers lose their jobs just because they have the misfortune to be in the wrong place at the wrong time when groups were combined.

Sure, there were low performed who were let go, but to suggest that that applies to everyone is untrue. A lot of people, including friends of mine, are losing their jobs and are in a world of hurt. They deserve to be treated with dignity and compassion. We could be next, you know. NO ONE is safe any more.
