Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Customers to be served. Vans to roll today and everyday. Will you get some of that $$$$?

Don't kid yourself into thinking VZ is stuck here. There will always be people working the jobs - the only question is productivity which we all knows will trend up because new people gain skills quickly.

Heck, the company does not even have to call an impasse at this point. They already have exactly what they wanted - replacement workers - as many as they want - on short contracts for as long as they want.

All they have to do is replace EWAs with temps and scale back the hotel/travel/meal costs - which they are already doing.

There is NO scenario under which the company does not staff the call centers or roll the vans.

Yes, and IMO the company wants the scenario thats playing out right now. They will get their flexible workforce without having to bargain for it. The union is giving the company exactly what it wants! Instead of taking another decade to reduce the union to nothing, theyll do it in a few months it seems. All the while....the "government" is monitoing the whole thing, which in turn legitimizes it.

Hlj...same here. Im planning BAU, or close to it, by the end of June. Its a pity things have gotten to this point, but the end result appears inevitable.

Yes, the truth can sometimes be scary.

But, the calls are being answered right now and I just saw vans on the road. So take comfort that at least the company will find a way forward.

Good luck with your job search.

From the replacements i've met, they seem to enjoy the pay for the reasonable amount of time they have to work.

Only drawback i've heard was that they had to wear ear plugs when these union whales blow their blowholes.
