Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Less than 3 year contract??? Absolutely ridiculous! Who the hell wants to do this again in 2018?

Union should be insisting on 4 or 5 year contract.

"Tearing out all the copper and replacing it with fiber in the CO's is exactly what will allow them to sell off assets. "

And they've managed to accomplish this in four COs over the past three years, and I'm talking about the entire Eastern footprint here...

Tearing out all the copper and replacing it with fiber in the CO's is exactly what will allow them to sell off assets. They will move everything to VoIP and get rid off copper equipment. They can then consolidate a 10 floor CO to 1or 2 floors in another building and sell off the freed up real estate....that came straight from Joe Russo.

Because no one in Wireline will be working for VZ after 2028.

Verizon won't have a wireline business in 3 years. Probably won't a year from now either.

"Three years ago there were twice as many union people as there are now. "

Huh. No. There were 45K people in 2011, the number that you're referring to (80K) belongs to the strike of 2000. Check your facts before posting nonsense.

"Just get a deal now that will allow people to get back to work and have time to find new jobs. "

Nope. If I have to look for another job I'll rather be doing it now than in three years.

"Verizon clearly doesn't have a future for those of us with wireline skills."

That's why they'll sell everything to Frontier like they did in the past. Fine by me. At least all of their call centers are within U.S.

Verizon will not sell off the rest of it's landline assets because this is where they are able to pull money from in order to continue to bull$hit wall street. If they sell off the remaining landline, the true wireless numbers are exposed and they are nowhere near what is presented to the public. Time to warm up a cell next to Bernie Madoff for Lowell and Francis.

Three years ago there were twice as many union people as there are now. Three years from now there will likely be no union people left at Verizon.

Just get a deal now that will allow people to get back to work and have time to find new jobs. Verizon clearly doesn't have a future for those of us with wireline skills.

Indeed.

Three years is the bare minimum.

Verizon just unveiled a 10-15 year plan to make all Co's in footprint Copper free...it sounds like they are done selling off assets.

3 years is fine. Verizon likely won't have any wireline assets 3 years from now so it's a mute point anyway.
