"I heard that after the strike before last (not 2011, but before that) a number of people had problems collecting on COBRA payments from the union."

You heard wrong.

The last strike before 2011 was in 2000 and only lasted for two weeks so all strikers still had their benefits intact.

Anyone choosing COBRA over the other options available needs to have their sanity checked.

Union is NOT covering insurance after May 1. They are only covering premiums for doctors visits that they deem emergencies. If you have run-of -the-mill doctors appointment coming up I'd cancel it or postpone until the strike is over.

Do not expect the union to cover expensive insurance or non-emergency doctor visits.

I heard that after the strike before last (not 2011, but before that) a number of people had problems collecting on COBRA payments from the union. I'm not sure if I want to go through the process of them taking their sweet time to decide if an illness or injury is worthy of them paying my COBRA premium.

It can be backdated, but if you use it next week or at any point and don't pay the $2500 they will not cover the claim and the doctor will end up coming to you for the full non-discounted price. If you don't use it it's no big deal if you don't pay it.

If you go back, you may not have job much longer. Especially if you work in a call center. I know it's tough but we are almost there!

You might be staying out, but I'm going back to work. I like my job and want to keep it; I also one day would like to be managing instead of being a grunt individual contributor for the rest of my life.

At $2,500 a pop, per month!! Glad the Union can help cover it all.
