If both sides have reasonable requests and demands, why not agree to mediation? Sure seems better than losing a bunch of money, health risk with no insurance and disconnecting customers that ultimately pay the bills. Not wanting a mediator would imply that requests aren't reasonable to begin with.

The company already offered the Union mediation and they refused. Company said they are done. Final deal has bee given. No mediation. Start checking your mailboxes for the Company's next move.
Here's the thing: Verizon has made it clear their future is not in wireline or traditional communications. They have made it clear that WE, the people in the union, are not doing the jobs they intend to be doing in three years.
With that in mind, anyone who expects them to cave in to our demands or throw out some really lucrative contract are out of their minds. They DO NOT want to be in the line of business we are in, so they don't care whether we stay or go. This is not 2011, it's a different time and situation altogether.
" If our leadership refuses to being in mediation then they are derelict in their responsibilities."
Nope. They just learned their lesson in 2011.
Fool me once...
how can there be bargaining when one party refuses to budge?
If we don't bring in mediation we will go without paychecks for probably the next six to eight weeks at a minimum. If our leadership refuses to being in mediation then they are derelict in their responsibilities.
They should be working 24x7 to end this thing instead of sitting on their fat posteriors waiting for another proposal that probably isn't coming.
I'd say it's about time for mediation. One last/final proposal in three weeks that is immediately rejected by the union tells me things are at an impasse.
The company has all but said it isn't going to provide another proposal so the union can either a) sit around another three weeks waiting to see if another proposal eventually comes, or b) get mediation involved so something will be hammered out.
So far the union leadership has been a big bag of nothing.
better then mediation would be binding arbitration. Both parties present their sides to an unbiased arbitrator and they get to rule.. this is how it is done in baseball. You are never going t get all you wnt but you get something based on the merits of your performance/argument
People are pu$$ies for realizing they have/had a decent job with some of the best benefits in the industry. For the union nothing is ever good enough, and there are more than a few union people I know who are worried that the union is about screw up a good paying job.
Nobody has a perfect job, and everyone has things about their job they wish were different. The union seems to think they are entitled to set the work conditions and they aren't -- that is the job of the people cutting the paycheck. If you don't want their job or like the work conditions, go find a job somewhere else that better suits your needs. This union is about to cost a bunch of people the best jobs they'll probably ever have.
@fss, that's because you're a big pile of $hit! Have another Twinkie! lol
Mediation is a last resort when both side wont budge. Verizon changed the offer on 4/28. They must keep on going and come to a stand still until there is no movement before mediation is an option.
87% of us gave the okay to strike. If you're one of the 13% pu$$y's who like taking it in the @ss, cross the line and live the rest of your sorry life as a scab.
I just fat fingered the shiit out of that lol
Let's face it unless the comtract has unicorn and money tree provisions im the union eyes it will still be the worst cintract from a greedy company.
Because most of the Union members believe that the last contract through Federal Mediation is the worst contract they've ever had.
At this stage mediation sounds like the right thing to do. I don't know why we didn't take it when they offered. My family needs our paycheck and health coverage!
