Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Good luck to Union

Not getting into right or wrong on either side but as a compassionate human I hope nothing happens to anybody when the medical and life insurance expire. COBRA is not an option for most as it's around 1200-1500 for a family of 4 per month. A car wreck, heart attack, stroke, etc. could and will completely devastate a family financially. I hope nobody goes thru something like that which could financially ruin their lives because the 2 sides can't come to an agreement.

Thanks OP! I hope you don't have a car wreck, heart attack or stroke either, even if you do have health insurance!

You have no idea what healthcare costs.. It's more like $2,000 a month and more for the union package. This explains why the unions keep thinking it's no big deal that they contribute little to their benefits.

I am tier 2 router tech and they outsourced my group to Manila and India, we are bare bones now, only the best people left, and we all agree we're on borrowed time. If they can do this to my group, there no tech center in Verizon that is safe, I don't care how complicated it is or how much you think they might need your skills. The only people they intend to keep in the us are those who physically maintain the cabling and the switches and routers, everyone else is going to be gone eventually. I laugh at all these brownnosing posters on crowdaround, these people have no idea what's coming. Verizon will be a company that exists only in other countries, just top executives in basking ridge and some field techs running around in trucks.

No worries, many of us have replacement employers to go to that will still provide us with decent pay and medical benefits. Even with all of this corporate outsourcing going on in this country and despite what hubris the corporate heads at Verizon have, they aren't the only game in town and are just as replaceable as they think the workers are. It is much better when everything is a two way street and isn't so one sided. There is strength in numbers after all. Lol
