If you can't agree to the terms of your union, resign. Others can stay. Union leaders have one duty and they are fulfilling it ;Bargain in Good Faith. Its for your future and future of your kids and grand kids. This company has been around for decades because of the sacrifices of past union members called retirees. Your way of saying thank you is not to cross but stay strong so they can see a Dr one more day. Stop being selfish you are not the only soul
No I just don't understand why you would walk in the first place if he is so against the union. Makes no sense to walk and then go back so soon. If you strike you strike. If your a scab then just be a scab from the begining. So I don't believe he is for real.

kaf: It's not the union's job to tell the company what the healthcare benefits should be. I know the other 100k employees in the company don't want the unions interfering with what is probably the best healthcare plan in the industry.
What's the real big surprise? That union leaders are f---ing us over and we will never make up the money lost here? Our return on investment is well passed.

Why did you walk then? Where you part of the 86% that authorized the strike? I hope not if that's how you feel. There is a reason we went on strike. They cannot declare an impasse and impose an offer if we are on strike already. Just sit tight.
The union has made recommendations to Verizon that would have saved money. One I thought was good ,would have saved Verizon 200,000,00 Mil. in healthcare costs. I have not read anything about why Verizon rejected it.
From the previous posts, I see a lot of people from union side want to be locked out. I think except NY, people can automatically have unemployment benefits after 49 days on strike. Employees couldn't have unemployment during the strike in most of the states.
If Verizon could get the work done without the union employees they wouldn't keep offering better deals
bua - Apologies accepted, but in 10 months of negotiating VZ may have offered up 3 versions of offers with only slight adjustments. Each time the 2 sides have met (more than weekly on avg) the Union has made proposals, each time with give-backs. These proposals have only been met with steadfast shaking heads by lawyers hired by VZ to get the worst deal possible for working people. Historically, companies have been forced to make the changes VZ wishes to enforce in order to stay in business. VZ is NOT in trouble, not by a long shot.

Am hearing that a lockout is imminent based on the last offer being officially rejected. Brace yourselves to either sell your soul or be on the unemployment line.
Both sides are doing plenty of "advertising" and not enough negotiating.
The union leadership is doing nothing except rejecting what few proposals come from the company.
I'd rather go back to work under the existing contract than go broke while the union leaders do little to nothing.

Broken English alert. We can see you from a mile away. We already know that they have temp workers trying to do our work. Nothing new. Problem is that most a very green when it comes to the job. Experience matters people. Plus they haven't even come close to staffing at an appropriate level. We will wait to see what our negotiators come up with. This publicity stunt just shows how desperate the company is. They are acting like a bunch of crybabies. The union is and should continue to keep the info at the table, not on YouTube.
Vz can absolutely impose a lockout now. That is the entire reason that they submitted it as a last, best offer. That is a legal bargaining term which means if Union declines the offer an Impasse can be declared and a lockout is now a legally viable option.
verizon can't impose a lockout during a strike. stop spewing that nonsense.
The unions have also had the proposal for under 24 hours so lets not get too ahead of ourselves here. There were some decent points in the proposal but it still needs further negotiating.
To all the trolls. Please stop saying the union leaders are doing nothing. Verizon is acting like a bunch of immature babies with their videos and nonsense. It's supposed to be negotiating, not advertising. The company is not getting what they want so now they are just stamping their feet. They haven't changed any proposals about transfers and work rules. It's just there aren't any company yes men on the other side of the table and they are not used to being told no. Union leaders are trying to keep what you have because VZ has taken everything in the past contract. Only thing you have left is your soul. It cost about $50 to feed a family of 4 per day. Cost of living is rising too fast, wages are going down. With no union VZ will pay less than $20/hr. Good things needs patience and faith.

It will difficult to replace 40,000 union members in this day and age. Many in the union leadership will lose their jobs and take a cut in salary.
When you deal with car sales men don't show your passion for the car or readiness to buy. Impulse buying will cost you a fortune. Again, union leadership was at the table for 10months and gave lots of counters, VZ replied with no shows and when they showed up they had same envelope. This is your last card, you fold you lose; hold on and you can play next deal.
One of my husband's friend was sent to VA teach Fios installation on Tuesday this week. I will say Verizon has been prepared for the worst. You could say I am a troll. But what I said is the truth. This strike might last very long or Verizon just want to lock union out. Some of you might be happy about unemployment plus union support. It will be 800 dollars a week. Is it enough for those families have kids in college or sick family member? I don't think so.
@evp: What you say is true. But what is the union leadership doing about it? NOTHING. They are letting the big wigs dictate what/when/where in this negotiation and offering no counter offers. There is no proactiveness, no aggressiveness, just letting the big wigs do it their way.
It's no skin off their back -- they are getting a paycheck and they don't have to cancel their doctors' appointments next week for lack of coverage. They are fine and dandy and doing nothing except sitting on their fat ---hands --- and waiting for someone else to do something. WHERE IS THE LEADERSHIP?
Verizon Leadership: Busy running the company, spewing propaganda about the strike, eating bon bons, sending a best and final offer every two weeks.
Union Workers: Picketing for hours each day, receiving no pay, no benefits, left wondering when or if we will be back to work.
Union Leaders: Collecting their paychecks, reviewing the latest Verizon offer every two weeks, doing absolutely nothing as a counter proposal, sitting around waiting for management to send next proposal.
Out of all three groups the Union Leadership is doing the least. At least the fat cats at Verizon have a company to run so they are allegedly doing something during the workday. When do we offer a counter proposal? When do we sit at Verizon's doorstep DEMANDING that we bargain and get this put to bed? When does the union leadership do ANYTHING PROACTIVE?
Sick and tired of being sick and tired. The union leadership is doing absolutely nothing and WE are the ones who are paying for it.

The union leaders will lose also. If they lose this one there will be no union and therefore they wont be a need for union leaders.
There is a big diff btw negotiating for a contract vs car deal. VZ big wigs are using car sales tactics of i can't get any more for your trade, this is all i can come off the price, this is the best interest you can get, this car will be sold when you walk out the door blah blah blah.......next day they call you and offer you $2000 more for your car and $1000 discount . Hang on brothers and sister, they are losing more than you every minute. They will give more, trust me, i sold cars.
I tend to agree. They have their jobs, they have their benefits, and they are doing nothing except waiting for Verizon to do something before rejecting it.
Have they even counteroffered and been specific about what they'll accept? No, they've spoken in generalities and offered no counterproposal. Getting sick of them.
The only people making out like a bandit during this whole strike are the union leaders. Verizon and the union are both paying the price for it.
