Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Chris Shelton

Shelton is a New York Telephone guy, he understands the Verizon East footprint better than anyone else that could be CWA president. Does this mean that Shelton is looking at the strike as something where he'll be able to trumpet the hometown advantage of hometown CWA leadership?

If Shelton overplays his hand in this strike, the locals will be the ones who feel the effects. I just hope Shelton remembers that.

Customer love indirects.. The smelly shops with the pushy middle eastern guy running it.. Yeah, VZ is going to give up their clean corporate retail presence that brings in bucks for their business for indirect retailers.

He sold us out in 2011 and then got promoted. The members haven't forgotten that betrayal.

Retail jobs will be "sold" to indirects. At least, in every Right to Work state.

I will say this, it is a tight-wire act with them right now. Overplay is a good analogy.

Union Leadership:

Do what you need to do to maintain membership this round. And as I have been saying for years, Starting on day 1 when we get back.. OP Unionize Wireless "SHOULD" be in full effect!! This is the ONLY way that you will gain power, is if you regain the numbers needed to be a strong threat to the tentacles of this corporation.

I know that they threaten call center employees with moving whenever anybody so much as mutters the word unio.. That is a tougher game to play with their retail workers and their cell, systems, and network technicians that they also employee, as they are all location oriented. Hard to outsource a job that involves visiting multiple tower sites a day or maintaining 24x7 coverage in the regional mobile switching centers that the towers all tie back to.

Just to ponder.. I wonder how many of the 170k positions are retail positions and associate level network operations positions? Anybody have numbers on that?
