The union still can accept mediation during the strike. It might be the last resort for Union to get a contract, otherwise it would be a very long summer for both sides.

I think Verizon will ask Union to accept Federal Mediation under the previous contract.
The meeting will have nothing to do with the strike. The company will again outline the beginning of stopping work benefits. No talks will be scheduled. More folks headed to Virginia for EWA.

The lack of transparency is something that I have always hated with VZ management. Not trying to make a dig, but it is semi-comforting to know that they treat everybody that way. This way everybody (mgmt/assoc) see's their true colors.. their true "credo"
I am sure they are just reaching out for PR reasons to say we tried to get this resolved with the union. The company knows when everyone loses their benefits that will make the news. This way they can say they iniated talks to no avail. They will claim they tried meantime not backing down on anything. We shall see what happens.
