Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

EWA's How was your weekend?......No End In Site....Your not going home...They are not going to replace you now, and start over with a new group.

It's all yours to see this though, and the Union is digging in for the long haul. You will not be replaced because you are getting to know the work area, and getting to know the work, so they will never replace you now. It would make no sense to start this over with a new staff. Those kids will be a little taller when you see them next time. you'll never get back now. Lowell is with his family though, and your in a Hotel room a thousand miles away from yours. Sleep tight your family misses you.

Some additional food for thought......Summer 2016 weather forecast is brutally hot for northern US including East Coast. This will result in severe thunderstorms moving from the Midwest to the East Coast. Not to mention the breakdown of ElNino and a Atlantic hurricane season to be above average. Worked FSC during Sandy and other major East Coast storms....repair time and call volume off the charts. I would hope senior mgmt has considered this and brings this to successful closure for all. No force of marginally trained people will be able to repair the extensive damage brought on by these storms. Do the smart thing and get the real techs back to work and prepare for a very trying 6 months. Best of luck to all, retired for some time now and watching from the sidelines

Life is tough. At 72 hours a week, I make 135% of my normal pay turning a $100k / year salary into 235K annual salary equivalent. I'll store some $$$ away for when I am riffed and get another 35 weeks of pay.

I wonder if H1B vista people will take both of my jobs too. My regular job and my EWA job too.

Then we will all be united looking at Verizon from the outside.

Does Lowell want a lockout to get 2 birds with one stone?

Actually Coney Island is open on the weekends but they close the park at 8. So if he worked till 7 he would have been sitting on a bench by himself after a short while. Pretty sure he is lying anyways.

Nice try buddy. You had a semi believable story with the Yankee game, although it was a stretch but then you got greedy. I live in Bklyn and Coney Island isn't open yet. Especially at night. Keep telling yourself the wife and kids are coming if it makes you feel better but we all know the truth. Lol.

Not a bad weekend. Decent weather, mobile picketers gave up - too much work for them you know. Nice customers, greatful for getting decent service Insead of the usual Union fare. OT is good too.

You can have all of that stinking blood money. I am thoroughly enjoying my vacation, getting up later every day! I get my 30 in March so stay out until then I don't care. When we come back it's all smooth sailing for me, with a bunch of overtime to fix your mess. Well gotta go back to sleep now enjoy your day.

They didn't get moved because they were EWA's. They got moved because some a--holes showed up and made a nuisance of themselves.

" Minor inconvenience even if I get moved every other day. Still worth the money."

Definitely. Enjoy the money, as well as your stay in The City That Never Sleeps.

Maybe now you understand why the strike is but a minor inconvenience for many people who work for VZ in this neck of the woods.

I got moved too, I don't care iether. Called their corporate office and explained that they had been my preferred hotel for years on all vacations but wouldn't be using them again. They offered me 4 free nights anywhere I went on next vacation for the inconvenience.

Yeah, you're right NYC is going to run out of hotels who want paying customers any day now. I had to change hotels but found a better one. I don't really care where I'm staying since it's so easy to get around in the city anyway. Minor inconvenience even if I get moved every other day. Still worth the money.

I LOVE NYC! Sure I am not nearly as good at the job as someone who does it every day but I get paid for fantasy camp and I get a little better each day. I get to learn new stuff every day which for me is just like when I was in college except instead of being dirt poor I'm getting everything paid for plus banking huge cash and get to tour NYC in my leisure time. My wife gets here on Thursday for a long free weekend. Haven't seen a reason to take a day off yet but if I felt the need I can have one..but I'd rather keep learning and banking. I repeat the unions stance but in the meantime it's giving me the time of my life.

Mine was great! Saturday off so I spent some time with the family. Since I was staying at a hotel all week instead of doing my normal long commute I was well rested. The nice meals three times a day, the lack of a drive for work and seeing that big paycheck put us all in a great mood for the weekend. Now I'm back to work. I'm having the first of my catered meals for the night, drinking some cold soda and relaxing in front of a computer. A queue that was backed up over 400 tickets when we took over is now closer to 100. Work is coming in steady enough for the day to pass quickly. Sorry you all are out of a job but I'm going to rack up as much extra cash as I can before either your come back or replacements are hired. I hope your weekend and week go as well as mine.

I don't think you get it. I am not fighting for anything since I have it already. My skills are highly transferable and I can write my ticket. Nope, your team is owned, you have limited skills and not to many other places to go. Sorry buddy!

The wife and kids will come up next weekend! We can experience the city as a fam! The following weekend I'll fly home and see them all for 3days.

With FaceTime we practically wake, break bread, and hit the sack together.

Making the most of an unfortunate situation.

I saw about forty of you folks near the VZW store in Rt 1 in Port Chester NY. As usual, the lead wife beater was grilling hot dogs off to the side, next to the beer cooler. The other sheep were walking clockwise mumbling some crap. For some reason, that corner always had frequent protesters, probably because it is a busy shopping area. In my opinion, they could be carrying an "Eat at Joes" sign and no would really care either.

My weekend was bad ass

I finished off a nice 84 hour work week (34 hours or double pay) by touring Manhattan and surrounding Burroughs every night. Trained it to the Bronx to catch a Yankees game Friday night. Arrived a bit late since my shift ended at 7pm, but that's ok. Late arrival helped me leverage a dirt cheap deal with ticket scalpers desperate to unload. Sat night I trained it to Coney Island and packed in an hour of amusement park fun before returning. Tonight had a wonderful steak dinner near Times Square then enjoyed the people watching. Every day I enjoy a new restaurant for lunch. The weather has been perfect. No hint of rain except for one day.

I love New York!

Thanks for allowing me to enjoy the city!

Cyber Hugs
