EWAs Can Make this Strike Shorter

EWAs, you can say "no" to your assignment and return to life as you knew it. Tell your EWA Supr that

(Pick one) you have a: family emergency; medical emergency; have developed workplace anxiety; commitment to faith, family, or community that cannot be ignored any longer. You cannot be terminated under these conditions. You may be given the stink eye at your old job (sorta like draft dodgers were) but it's entirely your perogative.

EWAs, you know that by doing the jobs of striking co-workers, you are undermining the values they are willing to sacrifice for. You are also no more than a pathetic pawn in Fran / Lowells even more pathetic power game...will they remember you come the next RIF? We all know that answer...what's really in it for you EWAs? Double work for double pay, I get that. A chance to give it to your fellow employees because you've heard they abuse the system? No one on this site can throw a first stone on that one, as EVERY employee at VZ (including you) given the chance, takes extra breaks, leaves early / comes in late, pads their ERs, takes home supplies, uses work equipment for personal use, puts off doing thing they don't like, delegates whenever possible, and generally pilfers the Company. LISTEN, EVERYONE, VZ SR. Leadership views each of you as a cost input and nothing more. They make they're money by trusting you won't break the inertia and risk bettering for yourself. The Union, for the first time in years, is trying to break that inertia and move forward. EWAs, if the Union is successful, you also have a chance at betterment....doing nothing and hoping for change is a Fool's folly. A sympathy walk-out or even a moment of acknowledgement by non-union employees would send fear through Sr Leadership. They can't replace everybody.

Sure. We'll all risk our jobs so you poor Union people can get a fair contract. Fat chance. Clean up your own mess.

That looks like a very practiced lists of reasons to get out of working. Must be from the union worker credo - tips to get paid for doing nothing.

Yes, EWAs would likely get fired if they refused their assignment. Non-union employees also get RIF'd regularly and in large numbers, irrespective of their performance. They also have their job scopes expanded, performance thresholds raised, and expected to work with obsolete systems, processes, and tools as a norm. Wouldn't YOU want the job and wage protections the Union has earned? Don't you think YOU deserve them? Wouldn't you feel better about working at VZ if you had them? You're okay with not having a voice (beyond quitting) when Sr Leadership farts and you're left breathing it in? Most of the developed world acknowdges the bond between employer and the worker, both white and blue collared, and affords protections you don't have (TUPE in the UK e.g.) and the union had to fight for through collective bargaining.

The fact that the Company jerks EWAs around at-will to cover striker vacancies should be proof enough of where real worker power rests....even if you don't know any strikers or are sore about pulling EWA, please try to respect what the Union has achieved for its members and indirectly all employees, including you. VZ owes more to all Its employees, past and present, for what it is Today and all deserve better.

Sorry, but Verizon has been very good to me and good for my career. This EWA is the least I can do (and the extra money I'm making ain't too shabby either).

This is YOUR battle, not ours. Why would any of us risk our jobs to help you extort the company?

I know a few that tried this back in August when they thought you were gonna strike. They were all laid off in the big one at the end of October. The one s that remain are too scared to do so. As for me, I did 92 hours last week and will do as many as I can this week. I love the money, the work is no harder than my normal job, and my family has traveled with me and stays at the hotel.

"break that inertia and move forward. EWAs, if the Union is successful, you also have a chance at betterment....doing nothing and hoping for change is a Fool's folly. A sympathy walk-out or even a moment of acknowledgement by non-union employees would send fear through Sr Leadership"

To the OP, you may not care for what I am going to say, but I think you were out picketing today and perhaps the sun got to you. First of all, my career goals are not tied to any Union actions. Except for this work stoppage, I have no connection to your work or your issues. If you want to walk off your job, please do so but don't direct me to do things that might benefit you. I don't care what you do, so handle it yourself. Your Union leadership got you into this predicament, that team is paid well to wire thus to the ground . A sympathy walkout?! I don't think so, that's your problem to handle. I am very comfortable that if things do not work out at Verizon, I will go elsewhere. You might need to think about what your world will look like without Verizon, as the business is not growing enough. In a two player market and the latest technology, VZ does not have 50% of the consumer mass market. Had the market share been closer to half, it would have been a different game. So, it's not casting the first stone, it's sharing a view on why the business is failing. It's hard to get sympathizers when the business is not cash flow positive. No moment if acknowledgement coming your way, sadly.

You can cross the line whenever you want and go back to work. I am enjoying the break from the office and am closing out the trouble tickets.

@ilf I'm not lazy... Before strike I was working 60 to 70 hours a week busting my assignment for this company.. They don't seem to appreciate me with the list of give backs vz wants... I already drive 55 miles each way to work.. I don't want to drive any further or be on loan for months at a time. I'm standing up along with everyone else and fighting for a fair contract.

"EWAs, you can say "no" to your assignment and return to life as you knew it."

In all fairness, no one can ask these people to lose their jobs. They are "at will" employees and are more than likely to be fired on the spot.

" No one on this site can throw a first stone on that one, as EVERY employee at VZ (including you) given the chance, takes extra breaks, leaves early / comes in late, pads their ERs, takes home supplies, uses work equipment for personal use, puts off doing thing they don't like, delegates whenever possible, and generally pilfers the Company."

Huh. No. Not everyone does that. There's laziness and ignorance on both sides of the fence, but there are still quite a few folks who take pride in their work.

"They can't replace everybody."

No, they can't replace everybody. They would only need to replace the first 1000 or so EWAs who'd follow your advice and get fired for it. The rest would keep on doing what they are doing and I don't blame them for it one bit.
