No need to bash each other in this thread, just post how long you think this thing will go. I'm a non union, non EWA tech, with no allegiance to either side.
I say both sides ego will prevent them from settling this until first week of June.

"I don't know but Fairpoint (ME, NH, VT) all ex Verizon areas were on strike for 4 Months and Verizon is using the same lawyers and watched Fairpoint REALLY close."
Fairpoint had also filed for bankruptcy prior to the strike - which VZ won't - which puts everyone involved in a very different position.
"Verizon is using the same lawyers" The unions should be bringing their rat and their protestors to the homes and businesses of these lawyers and their clients.
See no settlement in site before first week in June. The company wants to break the union.
My guess, is end of the month, and then federal mediation.
Contract by end of the year.

@1bh So I assume your a corporate lawyer with all this knowledge of how a company and Union function.
I say until August-especially if job postings "for striking Verizon workers" state for the summer.
2 months and Lowell will be begging us back.
OMG!!!! There will be no lockout. It does not benefit the company one bit, it is only a pipe dream of the unions.
"In the United States, under federal labor law, an employer may hire only temporary replacements during a lockout. In a strike, unless it is an unfair labor practice (ULP) strike, an employer may legally hire permanent replacements. Also, in many U.S. states, employees who are locked out are eligible to receive unemployment benefits, but are not eligible for such benefits during a strike."
Even in the case of a ULP, the employer is still permitted to hire temporary replacements for the striking workers.
So the assumption that the company is going to do a lockout to replace the union is simply just a fantasy, basically because it would be illegal to do so, and could result in them having to pay back-pay to each employee from the first day of a lockout. No way the company would risk this.
So Enough with the lockout comments
Does a lockout mean it's over, or is that just speculation? Could negotiations continue after that?
3rd week in May it will be over one way or the other.
1st week of May
techs back by Friday april 30th to keep benefits
techs back next Friday to keep benefits....my guess
No idea. I wonder how long Verizon will before another massive reorg.
I say second week in May.
It's a tough one. You have 39K or so spread out over many states so who knows what the company is thinking? Will they try to be the first bell system to break the unions? Is that the feather in their cap they will be proud to wear? I think we just need to let this play out but the further it goes.. Well. Pride runs deep on both sides.. 89 sucked is all I know.. lol
Federal mediation next week is my bet.
1St week in May
