Haven't heard a single person say they're thinking of crossing, if anything they are pumped for the next big rally.
That's how desperate they are. Spreading rumors of people crossing. I wonder why. If they didn't care they wouldn't say anything

When we come back we will make a small fortune it overtime with the backlog and the work we will get when the company gives all the cancelled orders a huge discount just to give us another chance

My local 1108 tape is from Wednesday. My stupid asspresident and vice president only care about themselves. What a joke this whole strike is. Why did they not accept mediation? I'm sending in my papers to resign Monday. UNion has never helped me anyway. I wonder if the golf outing is still on?
Stupid is ...as stupid does..some of our own so called brothers and sisters don't even know what a union is..they're always in it for themselves only..they care nothing about the greater cause or struggle.they sit on their hands..let others do the fighting, and glom on to the benefits of a victory..some are no better than any of the company asskissers that post here.
Do it, cross the line. Are your union 'brothers and sisters' worth seeking your spouse's and children suffer? Medicine is expensive. Obamacare is expensive. Food, schooling, car payments, home payments, etc. Cross, and best of luck.

The managers hare having a blast joy riding in thier new Tonka Toys playing Bob the Builder & Tool Time with Tina, while costing the company a bundle in terms of overtime, undone managment work, underperformed customer maintenance and horrible public relations.
You caught the company with their pants down and hands in the cookie jar. In an election year about American jobs the company has been caught outsourcing thousands of good paying jobs to foreign nations and undermining its own critical communications infrastructure.

You are correct that unemployment is not a loan or has ti be repaid. You are incorrect that it would be 40-50 percent which would happen in Europe.
Since you are in America, your unemployment check is quite small, barely over 1k a month after tax. Yes you can elect not to withhold the tax.

Glad to see you still have customers that use Verizon's network, but instead of calling people stupid, take a minute and think about how many of those services have been disconnected in the past 5 years. Then look at what is coming in the future...that's right even more disconnects. We have been working (installing new technology), and pricing (competition eats us for lunch on pricing), ourselves out of a job. Hanging your hat on obsolete analog circuits and 911 isn't a very wise career move.
What are you talking about? Unemployment doesn't have to be paid back. It's not a short term loan either. It's part of your total gross income that supplements wages you would have normally earned working. Usually it supplements between 40 and 50 percent of your normal wages. You can usually elect whether or not to have federal or state taxes withheld.
@cgu that works for people who work in NY but most states require people who have jobs to work instead of beg for unemployment.
People repeatedly supply proof VZ cooks the books yet some do not understand or refuse to accept it as fact.
Also, what Lowell is doing to VZ has been done to numerous companies by other CEOs. It is a ratchet business model to milk the company.
Just remember unemployment isnt a free pass, it is a short term loan. What you take from it now will need to be repaid once you are employed and do your taxes.
To be honest between the unemployment check and the union check I will take home more than if I was working. I will have to do something about health insurance but all and all not working isn't really setting me back that much. It really boils down to whether or not you have any loyalty or integrity. People who have neither can live with themselves after they scab. But those people in my opinion scab on a daily basis anyway. They do nothing to further our cause. So let them scab so everyone can see them for who they really are once and for all.
Well I don't know what bumblef#ck town you work in but maybe you have heard of a place called Manhattan? There are literally thousands of businesses there operating on the supposedly "obsolete" wireline network. Not to mention Police, Fire dept, MTA, Stock Traders, Radio lines, Television Stations, Alarms, Hospitals, Verizon Wireless stores, that's right Verizon Wireless stores lol. I could go on but I can only fix telco ckts. l can't fix stupid. Or are you just another liar?
I see your type of response on here a lot when a thought goes against the union way of thinking, but I can assure you I am a tech and that there are many who have the same line of thinking as me. In fact, I would be willing to be that most of the posters on this board are union members with a few random pot stirrers mixed in.

@nfl-- all the 'you won't strike posts" were just messing with you all as we really didn't think the union bosses were that stupid. Everyone new the company wanted you out and we figured you knew that too and that is why you didn't walk in August.
Or we could stop hanging out on the corner with signs around our neck thinking we are making a difference. Be realistic, stop the bleeding, and go back to work to serve our customers to the best of our ability while the union and company comes to an agreement. An agreement that is going to have to include givebacks. We cannot maintain status quo in a dying industry (most of us work wireline, don't give me the wireless line). And, yes, it is dying. We do more disconnects then installs for pots, Ethernet services and competition has all but killed any cell backhaul work same goes for other special access circuits. In areas where FiOS has been availabl for years, the work is stagnant. Where the FiOS work is still hot, contractors can easily do the work... it is not rocket science. Wake up and smell the coffee.

Striking if effective if you are the primary profit center or provide a mission critical service (think doctors at a hospital or auto workers at an auto manufacturer) however VZ wants to get rid of wireline. So it's goal is to get the most favorable contract so it can offload it at first opportunity.
It was such a stupid move to strike in the first place... Still cannot understand it.
Stay out for 6 months and be permanently replaced. Not very wise not accepting federal mediation and at least playing the game. We get no updates from our union leaders but sure let me stay out.
