Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Saw a homeless guy on my way in this morning. He was holding a sign that said "will work for food."

I caught the light, caught his eyes, lowered the window and gave him a few bucks. As I drove past my former team picketing outside my office I waved. They waved back. But I could see in their eyes that they still had no clue as to what was happening. Still hoping for a quick resolution. Not realizing that the company is not negotiating with the union. The company doesn't want them back at all. I wonder. In a few months, will I see these guys holding signs that read,"will work for $80K a year, gaurunteed raises, full medical dental and vision, life insurance, 401k match, 25+paid days off a year, tuition assistance, adoption assistance, employee assistance program..." A sad sight indeed.

Carma is a bitch! Go ahead and flaunt what you got and throw it into the face of the strikers. In the end, you will remember what an assyou been for the ol mighty buck doing someone elses job, temporarily.

Note to eager union novelists: separate groups of thoughts via paragraphs to help reader maintain connection with prose. One massive paragraph is unpleasant

Exactly! There are many people without jobs that would jump on their jobs in a heartbeat.

It was a cold rainy night, The rain drops fell into pools of puddles glistening from the neon lights of the bar i had just left. As I wondered out into the city, not really sure as to i was heading, My only thoughts was of her. I pull up the collar of my trench coat, tipped the brim of my hat as to let the rain glide off to one side, I flicked the but of my last cigarette into the night. She was a gone i thought sadly, as the whiskey from my last drink my rose to my head. How could I have been so stupid to let a doll like her slip though my foolish, selfish hands. A taxi cab came rumbling up, as it slowly made it's way though the quite rain soaked city streets, it paused, as if knowingly, I had now where to go. I open the door, and climbed in. sopping wet i shivered as i moved to the center of the bench back seat, "where to" the cabbie grasply bellowed like a far away fog horn on a moonless night. "Hell" I exclaimed to the back of his uncombed white hair. I could see his shoulders rise as to laugh, and he quipped We're already there my friend. What brought you here I asked with a sudden interest in this man, He said, I was once a CEO of a Fortune 500 company, You may have heard of it he said, I might have I said, and he barked loudly 'Can you hear me now!" I answered back, yes of coarse i can. He said no "Can you hear me Now!". I realized it was that commercial for that phone company. With amazement i asked how the hell did you end up ...well...here in hell? He went on to tell me that a Phone manufacturer called Apple had offered to exclusively put their phone on his network. So i asked did you? his head bowed, as we ran a red light, and said NO, I went with Blackberry. Then he went on to tell me how a internet video streaming company called Netflix wanted to stream on his fiber network, I hesitantly ask, well did you? NO! he barked even louder as we went down the wrong way of a one way street, I went with Redbox. He went on, and on with failure after failure till i almost opened the back door and threw myself out into the cold harsh night. I yelled please stop this cab, and let me out! His fist's clinched the steering wheel so tight i could see the whites of his knuckles, He slammed on the brakes. violently he turned his head toward me, and said "YOUR NOT UNION ARE YOU???" I said no, I'm not. his shoulders sank, and his head bowed down as he let out a breath holding the last bit of his dignity. I ask why? He said it was my final miscalculation failure. I climbed out and shut the door, and as his cab rumbled off into the steam of the rainy city dark streets i thought. Don't mess with Unionized people.

@H3EJhpc-wfx what I do realize is that new hires are lower salary starts than old hires, and then a push to RIF the old hires to reduce the over all weighted average cost of labor. Yeah I think I understand how that works and how its modeled, and why some sick person could get off scraping a couple of basis points. We are witnessing it now within the managment ranks.

Ces you do realize random salary reductions don't happen like that, even in non-Union world... Right?

Political free trade agreements and deregulation are the bigger issue.

Wow another moral equivalence terd from one of BR's paid HR think tank guru's, out to defend the castle keep. Total BS none the less. Because what this is about is the $80 going to $70 going to $60 and having to chase that all over creation, when and where ever our 'betters in in BR' say we must go. Meanwhile at the lower rungs, the company is shipping jobs out as fast as they can to hell-hole countries where indoor plumbing is a novel idea. That homeless guy is there because YOU helped put him there. Never forget this, because he won't, we won't and most people won't.
