@rlf Jerry was a union thug that got his when he tried to jump on the hood of a 19 year old temp worker who panicked. She hit the gas, he hit his head. That's the beauty of Darwin taking another out of the gene pool.

This is not the past. This is now. And that is not happening. What is happening is that the company is stepping all over itself in public and making complete a$$es of their execs. Even Huffpo got in on it. Amazing.
It's humorous that the Union takes the time out of their bowling regiment to comment on "scab" safety. The same ones that stick nails in tires and stand in front of vehicles driven by management. On that note, if the Union had given safety instructions about jumping on scab vehicles, Horgan might be alive today.
You are right, the company skimps now. I used to actually enjoy speaking to wireless customer service when the business was ramping up, because the company was investing a ton of cash into making sure that we had good people and products. Then VLSS and skimping and we become shoddy. Like every thing else.
It started in wireline by ignoring the state of the plant, and making the excuse that it would be replaced soon by FiOS fiber. Then FiOS was ignored because it is expensive. The absolute best, but expensive. It required investing and patience; good for business, bad for bonuses. So FiOS was ignored. And now there are less profits from wireline and the company executives want to know why? WTF???
No worries. They will make up lost opportunities and lost ground by getting the jump on the competition, by taking the cheap route and buying Redbox instead of Netflix. By Golly, we'll show those Hollywood hotshots and Wall Street just how hip and cool we are in video! Ummm. Never mind.

Verizon only cares when It is convenient! The majority of the time I'm talking a customer of the ledge because their trouble has been "scrubbed" for 3 days at least! So spare me the Verizon cares bullsh!t.
Agreed. That may have been expedient, but that was dumb. Definitely had some Darwin Award Potential.
It's good to note this safety lapses. Having been through this in 2011, I took safety very seriously and paid close attention in the pole climbing training, and applied it on every dispatch. There were a couple of repairs that couldn't be done safely so we didn't do them. One time there was a pole at a daycamp that couldn't be climbed (no steps) and it was not safe to move the bucket truck in there with all the kids, so we rescheduled to later time when the kids were home.
I don't understand why those workers didn't set the ladder at the right angle since it's an extremely easy test. We also would lash the ladder to the pole to prevent it from slipping out, even when on very stable ground.
There a hard earned lessons on safety and I would hope the union members observing lapses would offer constructive advice to protect all workers including management employees who are out there.
@hnk I am crying because your whole mentality is exactly what is not needed in this world. That is exactly why people don't like unions. The union itself may be a good idea, but union mentality, and this acting out, is its own detriment.

The facts are the union represented workers here have got balls and a spine. I wish the wireless side where I worked would vote the union in. Instead we have mainly haters and gossip queens here. Verizon tells you that you have a career here and then they treat you like an abused housewife.

These craft and union workers walked off the job because you wanted to steal from them and they said, no!
You want to steal their livlihoods, the futures of their children and the American Dream. So they used their American rights to walk-off the job and strike. I guess that you are one of those people who does not care much for American ideals. That does not surprise me.

OK you have a point there. I have a terrifc craft team and I really do not like working through strikes but as much as some people on here say than walk with us,i will get fired. At least you guys will hopefully be back soon.

Perhaps because the executives are trying to unfairly squeeze craft and union workers to increase their own bonuses?
Perhaps because they short-changed these replacement manager-workers in training to save more money for executive bonuses?
Perhaps because the company laid off 8,000 managers and sold off many more to other telecoms, who actually have some experience doing this?
Sounds to me that you are just another supporter of crony capitalism and ripping off shareholders, customers and employees.
I think the point is that the company has told the public that"any monkey" can do this job and "we have hired thousands of skilled workers to keep the company operating"
Just goes to PROVE the company lies on all aspects of their business.
I would hope that after doing that job for 20 years you would be faster than two guys who have never done it before. Very sad that this is all you got to say and show about why the union toook you out and now you will probaly lose your jobs. Maybe you can show these to your kids and tell them how great you are. Pretty sad on your part.
If they got hurt the company would say next man up. That ladder angle alone was unsafe, I would hope someone in the know would tell those guys what they did wrong, just for safety reasons.
@H2SVgN9-vdh but what are you going to say when someone gets hurt out there for not following safety procedures? Are you going to help out their family or are you just going to chalk it up to "tough luck" and "inexperience" and move onto the next page in the news?
