Technology and Minimum wage laws will force more and more of these throughout the country. As technology becomes more serviceable and alluring to investors and big corporate CEO's, more people will loose their jobs. At the same time, schools and universities over the past years have been concentrating on bigger profits in tuition and TEXT BOOK SALES than on making students ready for the workplace.

at the 60 day mark you are off payroll. you are notified 60 or more days in advance of this. if you're impacted you will know.

if you were part of the mark collins layoffs last year, your Associate Director isn't exactly lying to you but they were being disingenuous. How do you think people were selected?

I was surplussed last year. They will not tell anyone who is being let go. You will have to wait until aound the 60 days remaining on payroll mark. My associate director didn't even know until last minute. Level 3 knows but they will never reveal that info early. My associate director did not have a say in who stayed or was let go.

No one knows what exactly is going To happen, Managers are not talking and as far as we know the managers are the ones been laid off. But they don't said anything about us. We need to ask the level 3 managers and see what they have To said. Someone should post the so mentioned list here.

Yes most corporate union staffed stores will be replaced by authorized dealers. That is why they now will soon have the same leadership to manage the transition. Most corporate store employees have 3 years until they are out of a job. AT&T wants 1 to 2 flagship company owned stores in each major city and the rest to become authorized dealers. This makes it easier and cheaper to manage distribution and easier to strike break. Also once national retail is fully outsourced in 6 months they will see if it is successful and transition that to authorized retail and kick out the remaining 10% of account executives that sit on their behinds by end of 2017.

that must be why a week and a half ago in my org they gathered everyone, said there are impending layoffs and affected employees will get their 60 day notice in mid may. they are really hiding it in the Entertainment Group, /s

I'm so intrigued with how these layoffs are kept so quiet and under the radar just below the WARN threshold. Att structure makes it quite easy though. Especially if an org is broken down regionally across large amounts of states. Esp with northeast And midwest. You could hit 1000s of people and still ensure not one state is hit hard or disproportionately. That's probably somebody's job to make sure they do everything possible not to trigger the WARN.

One thing that I think att guards closely and should fear are these layoffs affecting public perception. Some of these posts are troubling on a few different levels.

Workers are determined to fight, but the actions of the CWA and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) have repeatedly undermined the battle. From the very beginning, the unions, which offered $200 million in concessions, have blocked any real mobilization of workers. Last week the CWA ordered 9,400 AT&T West workers in California and other states to continue working without a contract, thereby preventing a joint strike by telecom workers on both coasts.Far from being “friends” of the workers, the Democrats have spearheaded the deregulation of the telecommunications industry and provided billions in subsidies to Verizon, AT&T and other companies. In addition, the Obama administration has worked with corporate America to shift the cost of health care and pensions onto the backs of workers.

At DIRECTV we had an ethical way of doing things. We had customer comes first mentality. We had Employee relations that were AWESOME. HR was in the building.

NOW: HR is out, Union is in. We get more crap calls that ATT reps transfer over, create new accounts for old customers etc. NOW, layoffs. ATT doesn't get it. I welcome the lay off as this company has done nothing but blow smoke.

Yes I am an ATT direct employee and was on a call for the possibility of a layoff happening. Sounds like it's rolling to different groups but primarily the entertainment group.

Are the layoffs for AT&T direct employees too? There are some centers with a difference of call volumes it makes us think our calls are being routed somewhere else.

Level 3's are also effected. This is not just indirect. Care, sales ops, D2D, ATTR and support teams are also in the effected work group.

Think of the options that people have: ting.com, google voice, amazon prime, Netflix, Hulu, Tracfone, FI. The big boys, VZ and T may be reduced to mostly to peddling wholesale bandwidth to more nimble retail and business sales and service providers.
