The company asked for Federal mediation and the union refused. When does the company call it quits and move on? They are already hiring permanent replacements.

And that is the perfect summation for why so many managers are supporting the unions in this strike. This crap has got to end somewhere. I mean how many times can the be allowed to lied to us and get away with it?
They froze the wireline manager's pensions to save only several $100m a year. Which trapped 10,000+ managers mid career with the choice of staying long enough to get the paltry remaining amount or giving up all they earned. So, it's proven over and over they will take what they can get and have no remorse.

I really cannot imagine that the incremenatal savings by not renewing the existing contract, are really worth encouraging this strike to happen and all of the bad PR.
And so now because of that idiotic intransigence, service to the customers is comprimised, no one is watching the store back in BR and the shareholders will suffer. That is some serious cost saving measure they have going on there.
Fatal error in refusing mediation for the union. They should have accepted put on a show to trying then walked if necessary. Oh, that's right, if they did that they couldn't have been a prop for Bernie.

Why couldn't the company just renew the contract. I just saw a posting, and then looked it up, that the company had $49 billion in EBITDA last year, so clearly that contact can't be that onerous to the company.
