SDN and forward Caching are king along with pre-loading of content during off-peak hours where the perishable bandwidth dies on the vine and now that spectrum is monetized. There will be hardware in regional cell sites yes.. But a large part of the key is SDN and how it learns the local tower network viewers viewing habits and smartly routes data to lower per bit cost as well as the forward caching.

It's coming no matter how loud people wring their hands because after all, it could put the death nail in the stranded costs of Unions. I'm sure the company just hates that incentive.

Come now. EMBMS will load databases and reduce the switching backhaul. It will do nothing for the gamer or the Netflix viewer other than buffer. All that as side the spectrum required for the speeds eliminates remote sites and will require in building solution. Cha-ching! VoIP/BVoIP eliminates verizon unless you are mobile for voice. A simple solution then would be Google project Fi. Verizon is concentrating on the in building solutions to offload and to try and provide service . I have to say ATT is way ahead of the game on in building and started with big business contracts. Smart move, however they too will be subject to the technology eliminating the wire less tether. The Jeannie is out of the bottle and there is no turning back. Staying wireless to a complex grid of this magnitude would be much like going back and choosing DC over the AC power to the subscribers.

Worked FSC 5 years. All kinds of trouble calls on wireless reception and connectivity, way too many caveats. Nothing like a good hard wired connection. Fiber to the home, solid in home wiring and connections can't be beat.

I can see both sides of the argument. With regards to 5g I think it could largely replace a copper network in rural and some suburban areas. You can already by 4g Internet service in some parts of rural America and the non-vz offerings are actually affordable with some limitations. However in suburban and urban America you will need fiber as there would be to many people clogging the tubes. Copper is old technology and the bandaids atnt did with uverse prooved it. Fiber or 5g is the answer if don't correctly

Both of you... are dead wrong.. You might want to brush up a bit on technology. You might want to better understand what EMBMS.. Software Defined Networking, Pre-loading of content for near to live content and perishable bandwidth with regards to utilizing spectrum and pushing all that content to a fixed wireless device actually means.. Just because the union tape doesn't tell you the times they are a changin', doesn't mean it ain't happenin' bub. To answer your question.. why yes.. yes kind sir the union leadership was not technically adept enough years ago to make the push to unionize the workforce..

Exactly what I have been saying. It became impossible to get core coverage and capacity sites on a 5 mile grid. Can you imagine a 2-4 block grid? Everything they rush to market with fails and is old technology. PTT or VoLTE! The spend more time trying to make it original and never make it work. Their profit gets in the way of reality. The field will evolve, however, verizon is the caveman trying to make the square wheel work and selling it as if it is a modern day evolution while others are rolling around on their round wheels. I guess when they went into the add and in building business they ignored the BVoIP and the direction of the rest of the industry. Fiber to the home and device evolution is the future. Not wireless to the home while saying that nobody needs nor wants unlimited data. What a joke!
