Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Strike having unintended benefits...

Suddenly I like my job again. Maybe it's not having to work with union field techs and testers, maybe its my swelling 401k, maybe it's the sudden comradery with my coworkers, maybe it's the multiple free catered meals and free drinks and snacks, maybe it's the 32+ OT hours a week, I dunno. Whatever it is, please feel free to strike until October, by then I'll have my house paid off and a 21 foot boat in the driveway. And binus, if they rif me at the end of it all, nice fat chunk of severance to add to the pot. Thanks union and Verizon mgmt for being so greedy!

What a Kool-Aid drinker, Ha Ha Ha! This is about the Good Guys and the Bad Guyz. The Good Guys are just average Joe and Joe-ettes just trying to get by and ahead in life, for their families, children and themselves. The Bad Guyz are the mean 1 - 3 Percenters, who caught on to this really cool idea of having senior managers pretend to be entrepeneur and compensate themselves as such. The Good Guys do all of the hard work and thinking, while the Bad Guyz threaten, belabor and belittle the Good Guys into working like whipped dogs and slaves.

Lots of people seem to really be enjoying their EWA jobs this time around. That's great. And the huge paychecks just make it that much better.

And now that the company is paying non-EWAers overtime, everyone seems to be pretty content this time around.

The company is really making it worth everyone's time. It's clear they expect this to go on right up until the big lockout in a few weeks; they have really done a great job uniting the team.

@OP, good on you man. I hope they stay out for a long while too. I don't mind the hours or the money. My ewa supervisor treated us all to the movies and dinner the other night. Did a few shots with her too. Great times, Verizon is fun again.

Your welcome....My house was paid off years ago with the years of FIOS startup. And if your still paying a montage shame on you. My only fear now is all the forced overtime the company will make me do.. I really am at a point where i don't do overtime, and i just see weeks over forced overtime coming. It truly is the only reason i want this strike to end because i sure don't miss doing that work.

Oh we most certainly will be back. Lowell might not be there or Shamwow or is it Barney? But we are coming back. The government, customers and commissions and investors may insist. The company is nick and diming the union workers while throwing away billions and billions of dollars on second rate projects that end up going no where.

The op is a loser and obviously already caved on his pension and benefits. Have some balls to fight for what's right. That's why your struggling now to learn a craft. Your probably one of the jackasses on you tube getting picked on for being stupid.

@ezr But your not going to return. Is that all you Union people can say. We're gonna be RIF'ed. What do you think we live with everyday. We know we can be RIF'ed. Is that all you can come up with?

@H1WujOB No. I hope you get it all. These guys really phukked up. It is amazing. Way over thought and under anticipated this one. I could see this going to October, but I don't think the institutional investors will allow this nonsense to go on till then. The new master plan is BS but the company still makes money hand over fist inspite of the worst efforts of lowmac, barney (i like that!) tammy and marni. Considering the stock price action and the debt load, this may not run much fruther than the Annual Meeting. Then cut a long deal and try to find a buyer. Reboot. He who fights and runs away lives to fight another day.

Squirrel Force Five, it sounds like you are making the most of it!

The good news is you should get several more weeks of all that overtime from what people are saying. You're likely to have it stop on May 20 though, assuming there are enough new employees hired by that time and enough of the union workers cross the picket lines and come back to their jobs.

If not enough unioners come back before the lockout then maybe you'll get a another week or two out of it.

@ezr Reading comprehension is key, maybe you should use tuition assistance in something other than cooking classes. OP said they'd be fine with a rif. I would too, free money to find a place that appreciated me? Yes please.
