Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Verizon should put management staff in the field more often so they can learn more about the business

Think about it. Most office staff have never seen a FiOS install or the inside of a Central Office. Many have never come in contact with a real external customer in their entire career here. Few can fully appreciate what exactly it is that Verizon does. And maybe most don't really care. But wouldn't you think the company would benefit if these decisionmakers and analysts would be able to at least understand the business? Like it or not, the EWA is giving people an opportunity to do something different for a change and to see at least one new side of the business. Face it, not all desk jockeys really like sitting at a desk all day, every day. In some companies, it is encouraged and sometimes even required for decisionmakers to spend some time in the field as part of their career progression to become better rounded. I think too many at Verizon just don't have a clue what the business is all about. Food for thought.

I agree! Send the VP of Human Resources please? Tell them they were "randomly" selected. I want to go home to my family already.

I'm not a decision maker (I'm in Engineering, assigned a call center position) but what I've learned so far is that it's a bit tricky working with the different systems... but it's not rocket surgery. If Vz would integrate/update to a single system for all of the services it would be easy... but that's too expensive.

absolutely. In fairness to some orgs, this is practiced heavily already in CMB but not quite enough. It also comes down to numbers, when 80% of IT is in VDSI, the onshore workers are stuck fighting fires all over the place during business hours and those are usually via bridge calls, etc.

I would not wait 6 months for a repair. This will be murder for the Save team; how long of an OOS will get u out of a 1yr or 2yr agreement
