Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Call Center Work is not a "Craft" job!

LMAO at all these Union thugs posting about how they are so special and have only a certain craft.

I got news for them Verizon could pay someone $10.00 an hour and they would do Tech support, collections, customer service whatever Verizon threw at them.

And techs installing? There is nothing craft about hooking up Set top boxes and plugging in routers lol

Everyone is so egotistical at VZ about how great they are, how their position is so special, and no one else can do it. Everyone is so petty with each other and just down right combative. It's the worst work environment I have ever been exposed to. I was a college graduate in 2001 with a B.A. degree, it was a bullsh*t liberal arts and I soon realized the bubble was over and that degree was not going to get me far. So I knew about the opportunity to make great money at VZ and have great benefits. So I used a connection, took the tests, and got hired into a union technician position. Does this make me dumb? No. It makes me opportunistic and smart for spotting an opportunity to make more money than a "white collar" position, which I had before VZ. I have to say, the job is so much more than plugging a router in, like the non-union people on here reduce us to just to antagonize. That's fine, you tell yourselves whatever you need to. I left VZ last year after a decade of having my life dictated and consumed by an evil corporation who treated me like garbage for 11 years straight. In the end, good money and benefits can only make someone so happy. It by no means defined me as a person, which I feel it does for a lot of you on here. That's cool, but in the end there is way more to life than money and benefits. I spent 11 years being forced on most of my days off, holidays, 6-7 day work weeks, 12+ hour days, etc. My personal life suffered and ceased to exist. It became a trap. Anyways, I support the union, but in all I support everyone there on both sides to fight for a better working environment. They really shackle you in golden handcuffs there and use that to justify treating you like you don't matter. Good luck to all who have to try and survive there another 20 years. Glad I'm the F out finally.

Yeah, no! Trump is a trust fund baby who has filed bankruptcy at least 4 times. If he was a "patriot" (so sick of that ridiculous right wing badge of honor) he'd stop making a mockery of the election process and of the people he pretends he wants to represent.

"Because he really is a capitalist and entrepeneur and patriot, and he knows who doesn't belong in his clubhouse, particularly those who are selling out American workers. "

$10/hr ? The filipina's would love that and Verizon would be god. Your fancy adidas clothes are made in the Philippines.they make a whopping 90 pesos a day for 14 hr days. That's a whole $2 dollars a day. I am not sure why they would want US money since they hate us and prefer the Koreans.

@H0uWhNn-1ufl this is why the 1% and "crony" capitalitsts, not entrepeneurs like Gates or Jobs or JP Morgan, but rather 'employees' of these enterpeneurs and their investor's capital - but who compensate themselves and their friends as if they were the entrepeneurs and capitalists. People like Lowell and Shamwow and Tami and Marni and Mudge. They do this by selling out their countries their employees and their investors, for their own returns.

That is why they all fear Trump. Because he really is a capitalist and entrepeneur and patriot, and he knows who doesn't belong in his clubhouse, particularly those who are selling out American workers. Verizon HR and execs should be concerned. "you can fool all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time!: Party's over!

I hope both the union and Trump win for America!

I am a conservative manager.

College graduates will easily fill any call center jobs and do well....field jobs require a more defined skill set but newsflash folks every position in Verizon is replaceable there are no brain surgeons on the payroll get over yourselves the company will do just fine without you

VZW call centers, when state tax abatements run out or are discontinued, are going to Accenture and then will one by one be rebuilt overseas, Manila, South Korea, India, etc, less overhead - call center posters are usually unskilled and will not fare well anywhere else - looks like online college will be needed - vote for Bernie Sanders and see if you will really get the tuition for free - ha ha.

op is a scumbag who obviously has no idea what any of these jobs involve. If you are talking about doing the jobs half @$$ed like a scab, then yes the pay would be much less. Hope you accidentally leave your gas stove on overnight you p.o.s.

@H0uWhNn-1vwk more like Lowmac and shamwow femunda cheese. I understand that it is a favorite of no-talent Kool-aid drinkers like yourself. You might want to look for some other purpose in life, instead of serving as an example of how not to live one's life.

Sounds like the only "craft" the OP knows about is kraft macaroni and cheese.

In my opinion, Verizon call center people deserve a significant bump up from regular call center folks if not for the sole reason of all the antiquated systems they have to deal with in their work. It'd be one thing if they came to work, plugged in, and then had modern systems to support them. But no, a lot of it is jury rigged, spaghetti coded systems that make you crazy. Add in some dumb union rules and some quotas, and you can easily lose your mind.

In reality anyones salary could be a lot less than it is. There are cops in some town that make around $150k a year, and you have security guards making minimum wage. You have certain Fire Department employees making north of $100k and then you have volunteer fireman making nothing. So, i am not sure who is judge and jury of the national pay scale, but I am pretty sure unions are a big part of the reason people make a decent wage. And CEO's and upper management are ridiculously overpaid.

@H0uWhNn-ple exactly which language are you trying to post in? I have a feeling you may be one of those smelly H1Bs that are trying to steal American jobs. One thing is certain, is that you do not even have the basic communications skills to work for Verizon. Great job VZ hiring idiots like this.

And this is CLEARLY one excellent example of a 'super smart' manager (sic):

"Our texts don't have to be super skilled especially copper ones."

"Texts" are you serious? It is "Tech" as in "Technician"

But thanks for showing us what kind of morons run the company.

Will not wait that might be a tad untrue. Our texts don't have to be super skilled especially copper ones. But I do agree with the rep job. There are no super skills needed to do this job. They are blessed that they get 30 an hour plus full benefits. The majority of them and I do mean the majority of them have no desire to sell look for every opportunity to call in sick and to abuse the system. Again very minimal skills for anyone who just answers phones. These folks need to ask themselves when the Lowell strikes and he will will they choose to come back? Or join the hundreds of managers who have already lost their jobs.

You bet your a$$ it is. My guess is you are one of the more worthless managers. Since you are posting on here, you are obviously neither bright enough nor courageous enough to serve in the field. Total loser. I bet your family thinks the same thing of you.
