I think the job location is a legit issue.

If they move you, they should pay.

Calls generated in the US, should be answered in the US.

On this point, I do agree with you.

The other issues, of health care, and pension, you do not have my sympathy.

Pensions are not the real issue. They want us to choose between a 401k or a pension that is capped at 30 years. The real issue is job relocation with very little notice and no assistance and that is out of state. Who can just uproot kids homes and lives. Another big issue is outsourcing jobs to other countries. The middle class made America what it is and these are hard work dedicated people who stand to loose their job to a foreign country for cheap labor. I understand people get frustrated with the way they see people acting on you tube but that is a very small percentage of 39000 people. We make a comfortable living but Are no means rich. The reason we make the money we make is there is a lot of risk involved. Working in close proximity to power cables, climbing poles and ladders, and the weight and tension we deal with on the poles that we also set.

Unpopular companies should avoid becoming less popular or worse, the victim of a boycott. It could happen. The union could become the cause celebre. There is such a thing as the straw that broke the camel's back. And you guys have that camel all loaded up.

All phone companies are "unpopular". It has nothing to do with overpaid union employees going on strike.

Sorry, but limiting the pensions to 30 years is not "gutting" it. Nor is asking for the union to contribute to it's premium healthcare like the rest of the company does "gutting" the healthcare benefits. Some of you use the term "gutting" pretty recklessly.

Most Americans don't even get pensions.

What some of you apparently don't realize is how unpopular of a company Verizon has become.

The only good thing I hear about Verizon anymore is their cell coverage in certain areas, that is the ONLY positive thing people have to say about our company these days.

It is not union stuff either, most of the complaints are about poor customer service, deceptive sales practices, abandoning the copper network, refusing to lay fiber etc etc.

How many times has Verizon Wireless been fined now? The truth is out there.

The union doesn't want bigger pensions. They are opposing the current plans getting gutted out, which is the company's intent.

As for public's appetite...maybe the supposed 98% (the real number is nowhere near that high, but that's an entirely different matter) should take a look at non-unionized giants like Intel, Bank Of America and so forth laying people off in droves as documented by this very site and possibly re-shuffle their priorities and preferences?

All of these companies were once great to work for. Not anymore.

Verizon's striking workers want to prevent a mass layoff under the guise of "movement of work" that the company is hell-bent on accomplishing. Whether they'll be successful remains to be seen, but at least they're putting up a fight utilizing resources that are legally available to them.

What would 12K Intel's workers given for a contract including a "no layoff" clause? Think about it.

The union was going to have to turn to Wireless at some point, as silly a move as it is. Wireline brings in a third the revenue of wireless and 1/20th of the net income.

The union's talking points have been shifting towards riding on VzW's coattails for a while now.

But people going into wireless stores aren't likely to care. That leaflet they are handing out looks like a 3rd grader wrote it, and it comes off as disgruntled employees being hypocrites.

In order to get sympathy from the general public the union workers need to be likeable, but they don't come off that way when they are trashing the company they work for. Most people who don't like their employers quit and find a job with a company they like instead of lazing around collecting a paycheck while they trash the company.

People are locked into contracts with Wireless. I don't see how boycotting it is going to do much good unless the union wants to be all the ETFs.

Plus, most of the public's appetite for unions is pretty low these days, especially when the people striking are already better compensated and have better benefits than 98% of the people out there. Why should they boycott because a union wants a bigger pension?

Its only fair! The wireless terds are the ones starving FiOS and encouraging the outsoucing of jobs.
