Just interviewed today, hired on the spot. Got my 30 from VZ, now off to a better environment, later bitches.
The reason why people don't look for jobs with AT&T, Frontier and/or Google is that they would have to uproot their families and move half way across the country. It's really that simple.
None of these companies maintains any significant presence close to the areas which are currently on strike. While Frontier owns CT and a small portion of PA, they are pretty well-staffed in both places.
So unless one wants to hop from NY/NJ/PA/DC to SC/NC or CA, there's not much that they can do apart from staying with Verizon, and fighting to keep at least some of the benefits that they were offered when they had originally joined the company.
If Google, AT&T, and Frontier pay those salaries then why don't these union people go get jobs with those companies instead of sitting around whining about VZ?

Four jobs a day has been the norm since more than a decade ago all over the VZ footprint. The same holds true for Frontier, don't know about AT&T or Windstream.
Productivity has been the main concern from ca. 2005 to 2015, when it was replaced by sheer workplace abuse as the only goal imposed on the mid-and-low level management, which brought many of the oldtimers on the management side to the exit door.
This too shall pass. With that said, Verizon is unlikely to ever re-invent itself as the great workplace that it once was for both management and craft again...

The only reason we don't leave is because what the union has earned for us is what's worth staying for. If we lose it, then we can make the decision to leave. The company will never give what the union already has won for us.

You're just being a troll but the truth is that they can't get other jobs that pay anywhere near what they are paid today. Who's going to pay anyone $60K for a customer service job? Or $78K to splice fiber? They got nowhere else to go and the company knows it. Of course, the CWA knew it too. That's why there was no strike in August. But the CWA sold them out for promises from Mr Berns of which he will never be able to deliver because the US will never have a socialist president.
They do not find other jobs because most but not all are lazy good for nothing workers. Especially the outside people who do one job a day than go and hide somewhere. The only job that would suit them is couch potato. They don't have the balls to quit and move on so they stay.
