Every soldier works to feed their family. No one really cares about winning or losing because they have no say in the battle. The kings and their ministers declare the war. They knew that you need money to feed your family. And the foot soldiers are sometimes contract soldiers (remember the contract soldiers from Asia who fought for US in gulf war, along with poor US soldiers). All of us, including union folks and mgmt employees, are just being played into the rich man's game. Because we have no choice.. And we have families to feed.

@H0EWLBH-trd you are one of those people that no one will miss if you get zapped out there on strike duty. In fact it would be a blessing to us all, and probably to your family too. I mean who could really care for such a skumdawg like you?

Who exactly is the "They" that you reference as being so thoughtless about people. Verizon doesn't do anything, it's people. I know every time my boss has to rif someone he takes it hard and really cares. I think a lot of management are in the same boat. Having talked with those in the know, I get the impression that there is sort of a master strategy out there which is implemented without respect to persons for the most part. Some high impact people can get a reprieve but for the most part there appears to be some grand strategy with regard to the rifs. So no one is out to get you personally. And there is no evil conspiracy or boogeyman out to get you.
The thing is that no one is "owed" a job. Unfortunately no one gets automatic job security anymore; we all have to work hard, do our best, and insure that we are too valuable to be let go. Sometimes even that isn't enough.
But Verizon is much better than most companies in this regard. They have a pretty good severance policy and in most cases give people who are RIF'fed a month notice. That is really good stuff comparatively speaking.
I don't understand why you post this as a negative toward Verizon when Verizon is much kinder than the majority of companies when it comes to laying people off. You act as though they sit around scheming to figure out ways to lay off more people, and that isn't the case. The thing that causes RIFs is running overbudget and under revenue performance. And honestly, the union is a HUGE part of the problem. This strike will definitely cause some RIFs, except the people who lose their jobs won't be the union people who caused this strike in the first place.
