I work at now AT&T (former DirecTV), and seeing people getting laid off on daily basis. Even many managers, and one VP i knew of were laid off last week. So, when there are clouds out there, chances are that it will rain, so, better be careful and start looking for new Job since lay off notice will be not longer than a 30 day notice if you are lucky one. AT&T is firing employees of DirecTV era at viral rate.

John "Dunce" Donovan appears to have drank the KoolAid. Of course he won't be laid off. Others will be though. AT&T isn't a software company and never will be.

That's's right, many initiatives, lots of news media headlines, at the end no substance, many people in our org, still trying to figure their roles in software development, the projects are started and replaced soon after...Let the ruse continue

What AT&T is doing here with automation, etc. is not revolutionary it has been around for a decade or more. Look at Google, Amazon, etc and you will see that these companies are far ahead of AT&T they just do not do press releases about it.

AT&T is becoming a software company in the respects that it's automating a lot of what people are doing right now. For example previously a field manager or technician would call in for a trouble ticket, then it was chatting in, now it's going to a website to create it.
