Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

See the union goes silent again

This is getting old. The union starts reiterating their crazy rhetoric for an entire week about going on strike and then you hear nothing. It's not like anything has changed. The negotiations are going no where. It's been like that for over 8 months. Neither side is budging. I just don't get it!

And that is what it is, a rumor. CWA 2108 posted an update today, still far apart, get ready to strike and picket wireless stores this weekend. It is not settled until members vote.

Rumor has it your contract has been settled. Let's see how good your union did for you now that your pensions will be frozen just like they did to management in 2006. Keep supporting your union.

You f---ing contractors can't walk and chew gum at the same time. You a--holes would not be able to do our job. Good luck f--- face

At least contractors will do their job. Trying to get a decent days work out of a union member is impossible! Contractors don't feel like everything is owed to them.

@1jns Ah, so back when you were inefficient, you were somehow able to fix that and suddenly you're efficient? Yeah.. we fixed it once. We'll do it again. Then management will see how useless the union techs truly are and get some contractors out there to do the job right.

Is the company going to give the union members their pay increases due to them in April or will the union pick that up for them?

@1mza - Last time the union struck, we were able to clean up all the backlog AND keep up with work. We have that think you call, work ethic. I know that's foreign to the typical union employee though.

The union is NOT going to strike.

There is no need to.

The contract they are working under, is better then then new one.

They know. If they strike they lose.

tired of the union whining

I'm convinced this company doesn't care about the workload

-i1cw In NYC the company can't handle the work load now. They just brought in 35 guys on loan from Buffalo NY . There is no way EWA ers can keep up with the work load.

Where do you get this idea that EWA workers will be in short supply after the Frontier sale? Vz has already replaced those who were assigned EWA and part of the sale. Also, Florida and Texas still have an VZ employee presence after the sale. Union equals 35k within a global employee count of 170k. Plenty of replacements, and ongoing training has occurred since August, both round 1 EWA, and round 2 replacements in event of a longer strike - to relieve the first groups.

I don't want to go, but I need a paycheck for my family. I dont think I will be very effective with my assignment, but it is what it is, its temporary.

I know this is supposed to be a kayoff board but it seems to have been taken over by Union conspiracy theorists. Layoffs loom in every company , all the time. If you're looking to find Union support try it somewhere that people aren't trying to grasp at straws to see if they can keep their jobs. To put it bluntly if you're so scared to lose your job and you think you're expendable maybe you should be looking anyway. If you post on a message board anonymously or if you come in and do your job everyday to the best of your ability you'll still be laid off. Try ifnoringvthe board and preparing yourself everyday for the next . I know I may be laid off at any time . but I also know I'll be OK if I am. The people on here are just trying to rattle cages so you'll vote in the Union. I know a few people who are in the Union shops . guess what , if there's a layoff they will be in the unemployment line next to you. All this rhetoric they're spouting is like a student council election . they won't be able to save your job . they may get you more pay while you still have it . but that will just increase the likelihood of the next layoff. It's a vicious cycle

@kog

You are exactly right. All this talk telling the union leadership to strike is like the football fan that knows more then the coach. I have my 30 so I'm good. But come on, let the leadership do it's job, they really do know more then the members. If we walk we not be back, think about that.

Let me answer that question by making you aware of some vz belief, not necessarily facts.

Vz is hugely in debt to the tune of $110,000,000,000. It is desperately trying to stay afloat financially. Buying vodaphone's share of vz wireless was a huge financial faux pas, with wireless revenues declining as the industry has reached saturation. As always it's working people who will bear the brunt of that foolish decision. The resulting debt is what is responsible for thousands of management, and some Union people losing their jobs late last year.

Company financial analysts look at the cost of many different parts of the company, but the one part which screams at the company, and is the single biggest expense most companies, large or small, have is labor costs. I know this will upset many Union people BUT skilled unionized labor in this country is very expensive when compared to other countries, especially India. India has a super abundance of very highly educated technical people, willing and able to work for much much less cost. When you take the brutal repayments needed to pay off the massive debt vz has its not too difficult to come to the conclusion that if vz can outsource its biggest expense it will save a boat load of money.

Vz knows it needs skilled technicians, but company financial analysts keeping showing vz senior management how much money that can be saved employing H1Bs and outsourcing development work to India.

Conclusion? Get rid of the expensive unionized labor and bring in low paid skilled foreign workers. The company do not want to negotiate a new contract, they want the Union and its very expensive techs 100% gone. That's why they are demanding such outrageous concessions from the Union negotiations. VZ ARE NOT NEGOTIATING IN GOOD FAITH, THEY WANT THE UNION AND ITS MEMBERS GONE, PERIOD. . They want that cheap foreign labor, and Wall Street, as always driven by greed, encourages vz at every opportunity.

This is exactly why the Union leaders won't give a green light to a strike. The Union knows this isn't a contract dispute. This is a death fight. Vz are determined to rid themselves of the Union and its members without paying a single penny more than the minimum.

The Union will not win a strike. Vz wants a death match with only one of the combatants alive to tell the tale.

Overconfidence blurs out the risk...Inferiority magnifies it. Be careful of that first round knockout. Verizon's leadership has done nothing but deteriorate the company, and it's employees. The role of the CEO is to enable people to excel, help them discover their own wisdom, engage themselves entirely in their work, and accept responsibility for making change. A good CEO will make himself accountable, and his employees will hold themselves to a high standard. If you treat your staff like children, they will behave that way. Verizon's CEO is a miscalculating machine in the world of business.....What in the World would make a CEO pick a fight with a workforce that is doing your business to the point of achieving success and profits.

street fight, when? Not sure, but definitely a first round knock out of the Union, Lowell's hands raised above his head. After which the new "Salem Witch Trials" will begin. Oh!!! I would not want to witness the Union people screaming and begging, as they are dragged to the bonfires.

While we are waiting could we talk about something less boring and way more interesting? How about my brand new Tesla car?

It's going to take a strike, why would the company lessen their demands now? Because the Union ask's them politely? This will undoubtedly become a street fight. The Union would be destroyed settling for any of these demands. The street fight will happen....The question is when.

Everyone of those associates should pull out of that union. They have been playing games since August as they always do. Settle the contract or do something for your "people" stand up and go on strike. This is getting old. Nobody wants to hear about it.

The Union's do not get Good Friday as a holiday. The Union will strike on the 1st of the month to insure benefits for the remainder of the month. This April looks good to go, as the company officially loses all the replacement workers from the Frontier sold states. Those managers will have expired EWA (Emergency Work Assignments) as of April 1. Buckle up.

Didn't little marky send out an email saying the company was "wrapping things up" with "the unions" last month? It seems this company's leaders have no idea what they are doing with, customers, products, investors, employees, union represented associates, or anything else except spending money.

Verizon is now a huge sh-it show. So laughable.
