Thread regarding AT&T Inc. layoffs

AT&T is growing faster than its rivals

Looks to be some voodoo going on here. The only reason it looks like it is growing is because it spent most of their cash on acquiring useless businesses like directtv.

T is up $5 this year (past 3 months), but even with where it was 4 years ago. Compare it against every other telecom stock and you'll see it's a dog. T is an awful stock to go long on.

The increase in stock price is not a good indicator of how well the company is performing if it was than Warren Buffet would not have dumped 20% of his stake in AT&T stating that it is showing signs of weakness. When evaluating the company you look at a lot of indicators, balance sheet, cash flow, etc.

It's up over 17% in the last year. I'd say it's doing pretty well.

The AT&T stock isn't going up. It treads water every quarter and isn't a very good investment. Saying the stock is doing well is blatantly untrue..

Bad deal for AT&T , America Movil is the mexican version of AT&t in US, it controls the wireless industry, a total monopoly assisted by the government.

Laws introduced almost two years ago to give wireless customers more choices have done little to dent dominant provider America Movil SAB’s market share, according to Thaddeus Arroyo, AT&T’s most senior executive in Mexico.

“Two years into regulatory reform the preponderant agent has more customers than when they started,” Arroyo said in an interview at AT&T’s offices in the Santa Fe section of Mexico City. “The real question -- and it’s for the regulator to determine -- what additional conditions are needed to drive change faster?”

Just sue them under monopoly laws.

Under Title II Google should be allowed access, regardless of ownership and negotiations. Being a cable company, defined as a cable provider or anything of that sort should be playing no role.

Google should be using the Title II classification since it's also an internet provider. Seeing as internet providers, formerly an information service, have been re-classified as utilities Google should have open access. The "cable TV" package should be secondary to the IP service portion of the sold packages.

Again, just sue them all under monopoly law and Title II.

Very True Google is the future. I hope they end AT&T once and for all. I am thinking within 7 years Google will purchase AT&T or what is left of it.

Buying dying companies was not the purpose of the 1996 telecom act , which was all about to spur investment in robust, competitive and open networks, that enable new industries and boost competition in existing ones,Google is the future of telecommunications and innovation

Exactly, GmaySBs-mur. Some people are so blinded by their hatred of AT&T that they can't admit that despite all its many faults, the company is pretty darn successful in some areas.

If at&t is not growing why is the stock going up so fast?

If you can't compete on price or service and have a reputation for not treating consumers well, then a rival that's making plans to come to one of your markets represents a disaster of the highest order, Google is the provider I want for my business
