Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

"We're going to strike on our terms."

We'll show them who's boss! We'll let them work us to death all winter and then strike when it's 70 and sunny. What a bunch of fools. Is this the type of leadership we want controlling our dues and our future?

I gaurentee you won't go on strike period. No leverage at all. Too much time wasted. Scared members. Over worked. Tired looking people.

Let's face it you aren't going on strike until the company declares an impass and imposes a contract, my guess is another month or so.

Would you this job for half the pay and little to no benefits? Ask yourself that.

Good luck with that strategy. Take a look at the cable company and who comes to your house. Quick and dirty installs. No time to do it right let alone quality

I'll make money doing private work for rich folk. They won't put up with substandard techs. Trust me

1nop. Then the company would have to change all the foremen all the upper management. change all safety rules and work rules or get rid of them completely and have a zero punishment policy no matter what you do. other then that there isn't a human on this planet that would put up with all the bullshit for half the pay. If you didnt know now you know

Union troll alert.

  1. The contract you have now, is better then the one you will get.

  2. If you strike, VZ will hire contract labors, who will do you job 90% as well for 1/2 price.

You will have no jobs, etc.

Until we fold? It's spoiled self defeating loser posts that cry doom and gloom, and want to squeal home to mommy when things get a little tough. We don't need sissy's crybabies in our fight for a fair and just contract against a greedy corporation. Did anyone think this was going to be a walk in the park fight? This is a company that has a lot of money and throws it around to their best interests. It's sad weak, pathetic, weaklings that post on here "We're doomed" go away losers we don't need a babies like you. Thank God the Union is full of people that want to fight. and are ready to fight. I'm not sure but i would hope ZDO and TGO posters are Managers. If they're not, hand in your Union cards and become one , You'll make great managers.

I will some up this pathetic Union in a few short sentences.I have seen many things in my 25 plus years at a northern New Jersey construction garage . Some things I hear on a constant basis are...That is my parking spot, that is my chair ,were you in my area today ,I don't do that ,I only do this ,why can he leave early and last but not least is the one I love the most....Can't see it from my house. This is what the members worry about at my location and we are supposedly one of the tighter knit garages.Doomed is the only word that describes our situation.

kqp, talk about drinking the koolade, The company was well prepared. They were paying a company to help with a union breaking game plan and training employees from the spring of 2015, and housing them .They were contracting out work (btw they are still doing that and they are paying a good amount for it, just to have them on the sidelines just in case) . They paid so much they had to layoff to minimize their loses . If the labor dispute continues they will have a rough forth quarter. The Board of Directors will get involved sooner or later and weigh in before it affects the bottom line. The employees are getting paid and are getting all their benefits. Low level management and the union are both affected in the same way, long hours , mental abuse for a company that does not care about them, its obvious. Verizon is stuck, they have a business to run and to possible sell and cant due to the situation.

The company hasn't done any extra training i can tell you that. They are at the same place as August 1st 2015 in training their do nothing managers, but now they're going to officially lose, as of April 1st all the replacement workers from California, Florida, and Texas in the Frontier sale I have also heard that Verizon is having a hard time recruiting, and retaining contractors they had on schedule for last August....They couldn't hold them this long. This is huge..hence the E-mail sent from Mark Read. He writes "this is not an endless process" read between the lines, You don't type that if you are satisfied with your current conditions, and the leverage you have, do you? He showed his hand. Believe it or not, the Union is eitehr geniuses, or so stupid they just fell into a great position in these negotiations. When this fight starts the Union is now in a great position of nothing getting done, and way ahead in leverage and financially.

@pep What's so funny? kind of a short response? or, are you a sweating manager about to climb rear poles to connect a 400 ft drop. and complete a 8 box, 150/150 Data Ethernet run installation, AFTER your repair in a business with a down 821 0nt? Can you get-er done in eight....if not see you in the QAR investigation. LOL

xzw, you must either be one of the union heads or have been guzzling their koolaid. The fact is that Verizon was actually very unprepared for a strike and the union was and continues to be bullied by the threat of a long strike. If union leadership had an understanding of not just how much work but also the quality of work that is done by the membership, then they would realize our jobs would not be able to be done by a bunch of untrained and under qualified replacement workers. All the past 8 months has done is give the company more time to train and prepare. Also, I'm sure that all of our members that have been laid off or unjustly suspended and or fired over the past 8 months would agree that the union's dragging their feet is unforgivable, as they have been completely forgotten. As for your comment about building up the strike fund? Completely ridiculous. When was the last time any of that money SHOULD have been spent? There should have been more than enough money in that fund as of August 2015 to support our members for AT LEAST a year. If not, then that just shines a light on leadership's misuse and mismanagement of the dues paid out by the membership.

Anything in life that has meaningful worth, Is worth fighting for to the bitter end. Our careers, that support our families, is meaningful worth. That being said, we are fighting a smart and calculated fight. They were well prepared for the Union to strike on Aug 1 As a matter of fact, they wanted the Union to strike. It was oblivious on Aug 1st when they left the Union sitting at the negotiating table well before the Midnight strike deadline. They were sure the Union would walk....they miscalculated. 8 months later the Union members are still getting paid, still getting benefits. and yes, the Union did save 8 months of strike funds. That money can now be used when the real fight starts. It's like softening up your opponent, and saving all your energy before your knockout punch, The Union has saved all it's energy. The Company is starting to crack. Did you see the E-mail from Mark Reed?..."This is not an endless process" Why would he type that? In my opinion, he tipped his hand. Sounds like frustration to me. and oh, by the way the Union members are still getting paid. The leverage is tipping to the Union's side, slowly but surely, and the opponent is softening. The company's plans were to have this all over by now...It's not, They miscalculated. The Union has not yet begun to fight. Very soon the Company, not prepared for this in any way they were prepared in August 2015, will be on it's heels, tired with very little options to do business as usual, and at that point 35,000 Union Brothers and Sisters will be primed to land a knockout punch

I love those who sit back and say "enjoy all the o.t." First of all, there are many workers that have no desire to work o.t. as spending time with friends, family and quality of life is more important. Second, by working all of the o.t. not only are we killing ourselves physically and mentally but we are telling our fellow workers who have been unjustifiably laid off, we support the companies decision to put them out in the street. Lastly, I guarantee that if those who continue to say, "just keep working" are placed on strike work duty, within a couple of weeks they too will understand why it is the right decision to strike. If we don't fight for what we believe in, what is the point of even having a union?

yah: They are making a profit of over $1 billion a month. That sure must hurt a lot. Once the profits start dropping they will make "their final and last offer" and implement it. And it is going to kill us!!!!!!!!!

ayn: Oh boy are we gonna go crazy and instead of wearing a red or black shirt wear a shirt that has both black and red?!? Lowell and the rest of management will fold like a cheap suit and come running to table to give us everything we want...smh.

rzt: They rocked the boat in the last contract...we gave in, it's our turn this contract!!!!

There will be no raises in a new contract. It will all be offset by the givebacks in medical, and other areas, So stop looking for that as a reason to strike for a new contract. What the Company wants to do, is to hand you a raise, BUT destroy the quality of your work environment. IT WILL NOT BE THE SAME JOB! Everything from sick days to disability, to medical, to vacations, to work locations, and work rules, will change drastically. You will not recognize the job when you get back with the new contract that you so disparately want It's a cloak and dagger move to destroy the Union. They thought you would strike, and after a while, without money, YOU would be willing to negotiate out of desperation and they would have the leverage. It backfired under this miscalculating leadership. You are not hurting for money right now. as a matter of fact your doing just fine. YOU have taken that leverage away from them. They wanted you to strike and be desperate. YOUR not desperate! YOUR getting paid everyday under a contract THEY DON'T WANT, NOT YOU! The worst thing you could do to hurt this company right now is to show up every morning and get paid. Cha-Ching thanks for the cash Lowell. Oh, and when you get around to it, a contract please. Regards.

So if what we have is so great, why are we making these threats of striking? Why don't we just shut up and continue doing the jobs we have been?

I understand work the OT and be happy with what I have, just don't like being jerked around with these threats of strike and don't plan any vacations or big purchases.

I like what i have and don't mind it. Rather not rock the boat
