I see my former job posted on the internal job board now. I was let go back in November. What is that all about. Does not look good that I am now collecting unemployment when I could be working at Verizon again.

I was let go in November as well but my position was filled within a week. I'm sure it has to do with my tenure. Doesn't surprise me your position is posted. I'd like to see someone with enough courage to retain a lawyer and go after VZ. There has to be something illegal about this.

I did find my old job by looking at the online job posting site. I like the idea of just changing my name and see if I get a response when I apply. I just hope the folks at the unemployment office do not ask me why I am collecting when there are many jobs on the Verizon online job site.

uvw! I You make a valid point regarding many Ameticans believing what is put out by fox/Limbaugh/hannity. Regrettably, many who watch/listen to these media outpourings, simply do not care, let alone understand, the impact to their own lives, or anyone else's.
You ask what can we do?
For myself:
I gave up on the Union leaders since it made me a victim of their own self-interest.
I gave up being a victim of vz greed and desire to rid itself of expensive management/Union, labor, (whether true or not).
I asked questions within vz, especially IT, and found that the new technical wave for telecom/ISPs is something called SDN and NFV (software defined networks & Network Function Virtualization).
More questions and discovered vz have 3 vz learn online classes for this "new wave" technology. Am busy taking those classes.
Went to employment websites like Dice.com & indeed.com and LinkedIn and read up on how to make my resume have more "punch."
I come to this site to see if I still have a job or not, but reading/writing rhetoric for or against The Union, rhetoric for or against Vz, is like trying to control the wind. It can't be done. Vz is going to do what vz is going to do, and the Union leaders are going to do what they do best, look after themselves. You and I need to do the same.
Fortunately! each of us can set the sails of our own life.

When you get a phone interview as Shamalamadingdong, use your best Apu impersonation and act arrogant as hell.
When they ask about yourself, say "I graduated the top of my class from the University of Mumbojumbo with advance degrees in Astrophysics, Biochemical Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, and Kama Sutra."
After they ooh and ahh over your fake credentials and start asking technical questions, respond indignantly, "How dare you ask me such trivial questions! I am Indian! I know everything! My people invented the concept of zero! You should stop asking me needless questions and hire me straight away and I will prove to you that I am worth the value of ten American workers!"
When you're no longer able to not break out in laughter, then tell 'em to f off.

Fbe, what is the union supposed to do when a large percentage of the people DON'T NOT SUPPORT LABOR anymore? You've heard of the term "useful idiot" ? You've got probably 50 million people a day falling for the FOX/Hannity/Limbaugh kool-aide about "job creators" and "trickle down", as their own pay and benefits get cut ! The proof is in the pudding, our living standards are going down as we defend the people putting the screws to us.
Its just a charade vz go thru to show they are trying to fill your job with someone here in the US. Then they give the job to yet another H1B, which is exactly what they intended to do in the first place. As I said, a charade.
Fact: vz are determined to lower their labor costs, at any cost. (Return Share holder value = greed). Indian labor costs a third of the cost for the same skilled American worker.
Most likely true: you were laid off because you cost vz way too much. If you are willing to work for $10/$12 an hour for 50/60 hours a week you would still have your job. Work life balance? Your new, low paid job, IS your life. Plenty of balance there?
My belief: big US companies will drive the price tag for skilled American labor lower and lower by exporting more and more of those jobs to India. You wanna job? you will work long and hard, hard and long for $10/$12 an hour. Give your kid a picture of yourself, it's a coming.

Not a troll, I work here, not a basking ridge butt kisser, but am management. I know! That makes me a leper and/or a parasite.

How did you see it if you no longer work at vz ?
Have some fun with it. Put together a resume with a fake name and address (the more syllables in your last name, the better, something like Shamalamadingdong, middle initial X). Then list all of the experience they are looking for. Then if you get an interview, you can tell them to phuqoff.
Same here also. It's a strange variation on Irish need not apply. In this case it is Americans,
especially the old folks. I would be interested in what would happen if you applied for your old job, but really for your mental health, it might be better to move on. Being unemployed was depressing for my husband and he is usually pretty mellow. Good luck with your job hunt. We took a pay cut, but given the number of hours worked for free before, it might actually be a pay increase, it's just that the benefits are pretty skimpy at the new place and back to two weeks vacation. He wakes up happy every morning now. Life goes on.
Same here, which is creating a problem with recruiters.
Verizon has become a very unAmerican 3rd world company.
They and other companies are not laying millions off because the work is not there but still so many keep there heads in the sand because they do not want to deal with reality.
They want to fill it with an H1B instead for half the price. Welcome to trickle down economics. Now, get mad and go vote accordingly.
They don't want anyone that's too settled or too good at their job, you don't make a good puppet or pet if you know what you're doing and need constant valudation/guidance. It's keeping the illusion of power strong...over another
Just apply for the job again. Maybe u'll get it.
Because Verizon is a disorganized cluster fuk that always shoots first and asks questions later. It's a miracle the place doesn't self destruct with all the retardedness going on.
