Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

The joke's on all of us.

Why is the union a joke? Why aren't these hardass executives who don't even seem to be human beings anymore called a joke? I'm coming to the conclusion that maybe it is the American working class that is the joke. The half of them don't seem to support labor. I heard Donald Trump say the following in the second Republican Presidential debate - "The American workers wages are too high". What? I thought he blew the nomination right there, but somehow that statement just seems to have slipped right under the radar. SO, a guy born into a multi millionaire family, who himself is a multi billionaire, says the American worker is paid too much, and yet he is leading the race? The masses are more concerned with football and Kim Kardashian's ass than they are with important things like the fact that we're tricked into going against our own best interests. Verizon is making money hand over fist, paying the executives 50 million a year, yet demanding concessions of the workers, and half the public doesn't seem to care. I fear that our kids are not going to have the same standard of living that we did.

Ctj- oh right!!! Cause you dont have it everyone else should have less. Right ? Youre a f---ing moron. Only reason you still have what you have is based what union fought on the other side. How else are they going to keep your side non union. You are quick to blame unions but what you dont realize is without unions your level of compensation would be far less then what donald is going to pay the mexicans to build his dumbass wall.

Signed-

Laidoff wireline

Ps us 44 laid off in pa probably paid for that horrible logo change. Thanks lowblow lowell

Ctj properly acknowledges the plight of non union employees and he gets accused of bending over and asking for more. There is no reasoning or compassion with some posters here. Its a job, a paycheck traded for services rendered. It you don't like the job or benefits, apply elsewhere. Interviews are to also validate if the company you desire employment with provides what you want in terms of pay and benefits. if not, then keep applying to others/keep shopping.

Is this company greedy? Of course, they pay little to no taxes, they offshore work consistently, and get this - they pay executives huge salaries! (Can you believe that! Oh wait, most companies do)

On the other hand, benefits are pretty good, bonus is nice, and they pay severance (which not all corp's do).

This is merely a means to feed, shelter, clothe my family. This place doesn't define me or success, I work hard, but could give a shit about their goals, and I don't confuse work with real life.

Ctj, instead of saying that what they're doing is not right, apologizes for the people that are bending him over. "May I have some more please?"

Try working for Verizon as a non-union employee where we have to pay for our health care (minus what VZ contributes), where our employment is not guaranteed, where we don't have pensions. Get a grip already. Of course Verizon is greedy, we live in a capitalistic system where there is license to be greedy.

You guys act like the world owes you something. Hate to break it to you but it doesn't...welcome to the real world.

Wow it's amazing that we once had the power to negotiate and protect our benefits from these greedy pigs. In the old days we wouldn't stand for this. Why do we pay for dues? We are without contract and protection but the locals get their money either way. Time calls to ask out stewards for answers. Enough is enough with this crap. The lack of updates and progress is killing me. It's time for our brothers and sisters to stick together and demand something be agreed to from the union we belong too. All we get it these updates saying we may go out, don't buy stuff, do overtime and quit loving your life. I want to spend time with my family period. This is why i am work. I don't want to be told that this may happen so grow a pair and do something if not shut up and let's get this contract sign.

@cgg, I like how you're bothered by the union bosses compensation, which is maybe 2x what the worker makes, but seem to have no problem with the 7 and 8 figure compensation of the executives, as they fire 8k people and aim for concessions for the rest of the workers. Prime example of a true FOX/Limbaugh zombie.

In boxing there is a term used to describe fighters. "He's hungry" it means the fighter wants to win, to move on, but more importantly to move up. To feed this hunger the fighter uses passion.

If a fighter does indeed win and move on and up he becomes more and more accustomed to the "good" life. This is fatal. Soon the night clubs and the pretty girls fan the flames of desire and when passion no longer feeds his hunger it dies.

The Union has become more and more a business. Passionate Union leaders focused on social justice and decent pay and working conditions have been replaced by business managers who have no passion. They use $3 college boy words to placate the rank and file keeping them in line and, most importantly, paying theIr dues.

Many Union members too have become fat cats. Most come on this board looking to see if there's a settlement or a notice of a strike threat, hoping they are going to get a pay raise and more benefits. They never comment because they have no passion, unless you count, Kim's a$$ now showing on TV?

The company are certainly greedy, blind idiots. Number 1 reason for their idiocy is paying $130,000,000,000 for vodaphone's share of vz wireless, BUT having done so, they have screwed themselves and, like a rat trapped in a corner, they are desperate to survive. Make no mistake this makes them a focused and formidable fighter. A Very determined advisery for the Union to take on. VZ has morphed into the "hungry fighter" with its need to survive feeding its hunger. Lowell is an unimaginative fool, as are the other upper management clowns, but they are still very focused and determined, which the Union and its members ARE NOT.

Both Union and members are weak, unfocused and spewing out verbal diarreah at the company, at the Union and each other. Members would be well advised to stop using emotions and start using their heads to focus on the fight ahead. A fight that will be very hard and very long.

You are correct, the Union bosses are not a joke, they are living large while you work your ass off and pay dues. Who's the joke now?

No president is going to do anything different than the last 10 presidents. They talk a big game, but since Reagan it's all kabuki theater to give the people the illusion of democracy. I like Trump, because he'll be the most entertaining. Hillary is a shrill socialist, and we all know that leads to noplace good.

Just sit back, crack a beer, and watch the spectacle as Rome burns again.
