Verizon doesn't want the public to know a lot of things. Like "better matters" when it really is "price matters".
Verizon quietly lays off thousands every year. Being careful not to make too big of a cut at once so it stays off the news.
Your "wireless" phone is only as powerful to get to the nearest cell site, from there your wireless phone call drops down into a wired network, Your wireless phone call is 99% wired.
The problem is that not even the nonengineering wireless trolls even understand much about telecom. Big suprise there right?
Sgt wake up!! EACH AND EVERY CELL CALL OR TEXT OR FACEBOOK POST ON THE EAST COAST TRAVELS OVER THE VERIZON LANDLINE INFRASTRUCTURE!! Nuff said!!!
Amen ebl, classic cooking the books. If not, we would be long gone by now but these corporate pig pricks know that if they get rid of all their hiding places, the shareholders will be screaming WTF!!! Hopefully somehow, some way, if the remaining areas are sold off, it will be to Google. CWA13K
Let's put it to the test. Sell off wireline and then the new company can charge VZ Wireless the going rate for fiber trunks coming from the cell sites. I guarantee you'll see their profits drop faster than King Kong's nuts in 100 degree heat.
Lets play wait and see. If verizon sells off ALL of wireline. We will look at wireless financials. Then you will get a big I TOLD YOU SO.
@vzk, the one very big difference that you conveniently fail to mention, is that VZ Wireless controls the balance sheet for Verizon Communications. Whenever wireless loses wireline completely, who is the blame going to fall back on then? I'll give you some credit, that was a good try on your behalf, but again just because you might be well educated doesn't mean you are actually intelligent..........NEXT!!!
The guts of the network have nothing to do with FiOS field techs, people who answer phones in call centers, or anyone else involved in this strike.
Verizon Wireless is a customer to Verizon just like American Airlines or IBM. They buy circuits from Verizon, but once they buy the circuits they manage the infrastructure themselves. It doesn't matter whether Verizon Wireline is owned by Verizon, Frontier, Level 3, or AT&T -- it's all the same.
Since the public is starting the realize that Verizon Wireline is very little of Verizon's total revenue and is not a big money make, the union's latest ploy seems to be to try and make everyone think Wireless is part of Wireline when it isn't. If Verizon Wireline was sold off tomorrow it would have no impact whatsoever on VzW operationally or financially.
I understand why the union has started this new strategy of trying to hang on to VzW's coattails, but just because they say it doesn't make it true. If it were true you wouldn't be seeing Verizon's wireline business being sold off to Frontier in chunks like it is.
There’s no such thing as a wireless network! The telecommunications network in the United States is made up of millions of miles of copper, fiber, microwave, satellite links, other radio links, and coaxial cable. These links are tied together at central offices, mobile telephone switching offices, head ends, cell towers, and even residences. We can say there is a public switched telephone network used for circuit switched telephone calls. We can say there is an Internet, used for packet switching. We can even say there is a Local Area Network, used for lots of things. And each of these networks can be made up of copper, fiber, microwave, etc., etc.! But, customers don’t say there is a copper network, or a fiber network, or any other kind of network -- copper, fiber, and all the rest are the tools making up the various networks. Incidentally, all of these links can be moved around to rearrange the network as demanded by traffic flow.
@ehg I agree!
Open a window and let some light into your life. Vzw and vz comm IS 1 company and it is reported as one
Cut off verizon wireline and see what happens. Even at L3 at some point or another it attaches to verizon network. Good luck. Even buying xo comm wont stop wireless from depending on wireline assets
That's wrong. T-Mobile does it every day. Verizon Wireless is a totally separate operating company and can get their backhaul circuits from anywhere whether it be Level 3, AT&T, or Verizon.
Verizon Wireless doesn't need Verizon Wireline to run -- it can manage it's backhauls from any wireline carrier. VzW orders and manages all of it's backhaul circuits independently of Verizon's wireline group.
That's why VzW is a separate entity from Verizon wireline, and VzW reports it's own financials and profits. It is totally independent from the rest of VZ.
