Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

We are all in this together. If union wins everyone wins. If they lose the rich get richer.

EWAs are giving up their time. Strikers are giving up their pay. But, for how long? At what point will the EWAs, their bank accounts fat with OT checks, move on to other opportunities outside Verizon? At what point will strikers give up on the union and cross the line? And yeah, for some on both sides the answer is never. But at what point will Verizon cease their charade of negotiations and bring in permanent replacements? I pray this ends soon with a fair agreement. Now comment. Haters b hatin'

tan, it's more than a math. it's financial. your number, 50 mil does not mean much overall once all financial and political aspects are factored in. The company is losing money at any rate as well as Union members. At zero sum game, think about who will win. As union claims, Verizon had 16 billion profit last year and cash in hand. If it makes sense to someone, they might just burn them. who knows what Verizon wants to do. It may be a rumor but I heard replacements are being recruited and trained.

I don't know what this strike is about. Let's not pull the mid class job BS. Most of you know that it's not about mid class job but it's just about senior union members and retirees

@ghd, it shouldn't be hard to believe. The company is losing in the ballpark of $50 million per day. Of course the company VZ Teamers are going to say "you're nuts, VZ is saving money by not having to pay you over entitled lazy slobs or your benefits." If some of these people who keep bragging about be educated are actually that smart, all they have to do is get the company financials and run the numbers. And before you ask........no I'm not going to prove myself to you. I've already put in the time to know the facts. Again, if you are soooooooooooo educated, it should only take you about an hour to find out the answer that I have already provided.

@iqq

The only reason your benefits are as good as they are now is because of the Union. Without cwa winning...They will cut every ones benefits....cwa set the standard for vz pay and benefits. We fight for ours but you have no choice to take what vz gives you.

Reagan locked out the Air Traffic Controllers back in the 80s and it worked. Some are saying that is exactly what Verizon is going to do. They've had 8 months to have a plan in place, and there's a reason they didn't give in during that time knowing that a strike was on the horizon.

Whomever said the union needs to win this for "ALL employees" is an idiot. The non-union employees quite frankly are tired of listening to the union whine about things like pensions and free healthcare that they don't get. And their tired of having their jobs affected by what seems to be a very narcissistic and entitled union.

The union is in this for themselves.

Again there are 700,000 CWA members, if this strike is for the soul of the unions in general as has been stated on the board. If this strike will affect all unions, then why aren't ALL 700,000 members on strike this would provide a hurt on those affected companies, garner more attention than Bernie for a few days. If we are at a crossroads, if this is the Unions Alamo then all bothers and sisters must unify. Yesterday I saw the mailman cross a picket line WTF

i am guessing it depends on how many will line next month. The would be measurement of what company would do. As someone mentioned, the job security is all about who got hired before 2003 and strikers hired after don't seem to get many benefits from this strike. It seems to me the strike is to benefit who got hired before 2003 and retirees.

I think it's easy to agree that health insurance and tuition, etc are not the primary issue. In common sense these days, most of health insurances never cover parents and tuition assistance from most of companies is all about improvement in current job function not for the improvement in life. Even on the relocation, companies move offices/branches as needed.

I don't see lock out would happen as it will not benefit the company. There is no way Verizon can hire a number of tech to replace considerable techs at the same time. Economy is not bad like 2011 when it was easy to find someone looking for any job.

The union needs to win this for ALL Verizon employees. Lowmac and his stooges must be baked for all of the ill will they have fomented and damage that they have done to the company's once money making assets, and reputation.

A lockout is the best action for the unions and a tactical mistake for the company. A lock out means unemployment benefits for the union workers and an extended strike and longer outages for the customers.

A lockout will bring this strike right into the Presidential Conventions where Verizon will once again get both of its eyes blackened by all of the Presidential candidates for shipping out good American jobs and shipping in more H1Bs.

So go ahead and lock out the union, but make sure you sell all of your stock before this happens.

dvm, where did you get the information on "locked out" ? Did you read it somewhere? Did Verizon state that? I never read that, please post so we can all be informed as you.

The permanent replacement will keep coming within four months. Those who cross the line before end of this month can keep working while the others will be locked out-unemployment. By the way, have to mention that there is no unemployment in both VA and MD.

What is the average age of a striker?

I would guess 50

They haven't hired in 15 years, if they ever do, new hires will be still be paying UNION DUES.

NEW HIRES CAN BE LAIDOFF ANYTIME, DONT HAVE A PENSION

Next contract new hires can be transferred anywhere

Verizon winning
