Idiotic. Why pay to train someone for work they'll be doing at another company in another industry? The whole point of tuition reimbursement is to further someones talent and help them advance in their current role/company, and not defect to a bakery.
Up until about ten years ago, union employees got tuition assistance for any course from an accredited inst. if that course was part of a degree program and the employee didn't already have a degree. Then in bargaining the union got the company to agree to pay for any accredited course, any subject.
The union would like to keep that, the company would like to take it away.
If wireline is so decrepit and the employees are so useless, doesn't it make sense to offer them a chance to retrain for other jobs, even if that work is outside the company? By the way, this program has annual and lifetime caps. I'm not sure how many people use the program, but I'd bet it costs less than it cost to re-do the logo, in which they moved the checkmark from the left to the right.
The chefs are not Verizon employees. They contract their food services out, dimwad. The fact that the Union wants VZ to pay for their kitchen training shows how out of touch the Union really is.
In previous threads,the rhetoric was that union members are fat,lazy slobs who are scared of change in the work environment. Now union members are demonized for wanting to learn more skills to be better people in general or to move on from this circus called verizon communications.
Corporate pilots get paid very well. Why not?
Maybe i want to fly mcass and smudge to they summer homes on the corporate jets. Maybe i want to spoon feed them myself with a little of my own recipe. Have you been to baskin ridge? They hire lots of chefs.. Whats it to you?. The job exists at verizon therefore its avaliabe for employees to excell at.
