Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

What is the Company's Ultimate Goal?

To gut the Union contract for their own business interests, or to make it more of a sellable asset?

I think the latter. If they can make serious headway on concessions, wireline will be gone within 6 months.

Meh, please sell off landline! The folks at Frontier LOVE IT!!

ps - y'all do know wireless can't work without wineline right? Cellphones aren't walkie talkies.

Sell wireline, let wireless pay market rates for the wireline use and let the chips fall where they may.

The union has caught no one off guard... The goal isn't to break the union, though that is part of the route to sell off the challenging pieces of wireline. They will ultimately be a network, wireless company with fiber to the towers. The rest will be sold off as soon as the pension liability is palitable for some sucker company.

So is it purely ego driven? If they crushed the Union, do they keep wireline and invest into it, or do they sell it off?

The company's ultimate goal is to crush the union. You don't have to wander far in BR to hear that sentiment. Lowell can't stand the union. But the union caught him off guard.
