Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Observation

Just an observation: all the union posts and replies are misspelled and illiterate, while all the management posts are coherent and legible.

Also, one would think that the info coming from company employees would be more credible, since they are still in tune with the day to day operations of the company. Union is hearing the BS from CWA and IBEW. When VZ said they trained the mgmt employees, they did. If I were union, I'd move to Seattle or LA where guaranteed minimum wage is $15/HR. Moral that the union will learn shortly: don't bite the hand that feeds you.

Hum and Go90 are absolute losers. The company was late to the market, and the products are not as good as what is already out there. As GE's Jack Welch once wisely pointed out: "if you can't be Number 1 of Number 2 in a market, then why are you in that market?"

Every single investment that McAdam has made since becoming CEO has turned out to be a loser. And the company did over pay Vodafone, but had little choice given their weak negotiators. The company was forunate that borrowing money was so cheap. Go90, Hum and all of the VDMS crap is just that, crap!

These union folks should realize that the majority of the company posters on this site are finance and accounting employees with more insight to the numbers, forecasts and strategical decisions. So go ahead use your new found time off to scoff at the debt plan, HUM and Go90 while being laughed at.

"And you would be completely incorrect coming from a technician who has more degrees from accredited universities than 80% of management. Thanks for playing though."

And exactly what are all of those degrees doing for you know? And why on earth would a person with so many degrees be tied to a set hourly wage? Really? Somebody with so many degrees should be shopping himself around to the highest bidder, not letting others decide what he is going to earn via a vote. Sounds like you're holding yourself back.

@ynf - Verizon is so many moves ahead it is unbelievable? Please enlighten me, how many moves ahead?

Tell me how many moves before the $113 billion in debt is paid off? Tell me how many moves before go90 and HUM are profitable and have measurable results? Tell me why on earth did Verizon build 5 destination stores and how many moves before those are profitable at $15 million apiece and staffed with 50 high school drop out retail employees? How many moreoves before Verizon reports a quarterly net loss in subscriber growth?

No, I can believe how many moves ahead Verizon is. From a leadership team so arrogant they can't see past their own stock options, it's fewer moves than you think dude...

When this all goes "Video over IP" as did VIOP and this long history of destruction to the "wire-lines" assets for the profit of wireless's success, everything we have invested into this company will be liquidated. The call centers and servicemen will be thinned down to a minimum and the remaining managers will also no longer have employees to meaninglessly antagonize. Those managers will get riffed and the remaining techs providing service in the field will be exactly what Verizon pays for. Low pay, no benefits, little to no vacation travelers that either don't have or care to be with their families there will be no quality left of Verizon. As a bonus Lowell will then charge us all by the GIG at our homes since revenue will no longer be generated off of SetTopBoxes.....

Gone are the days of five nines quality.

@oyr, now let me ask you a question. Whenever I'm giving it to you doggy style and smacking your @$$, does that count as a beating? If so, why do you keep screaming DON'T STOP?

You realize that there are thousands of retained managers who are required to work double to mitigate the load of EWA's assignments, correct?

It's a very controlled loss. They are cutting non essential programs and reassigning to support basic customer services in management roles.

You are a fool if you think the impact of this will be more RIF's. There are always RIF's but it won't be because of this.

I'm not even management but if this were a game of chess you have yet to realize how close to being in check you are. Verizon is so many moves ahead it's unbelievable.

Something is coming soon which will allow customers to tolerate this delay even more, you guys are going to be laughably desperate soon.

@GX9Foud-pjr truer words were never spoken. Rumor is, that because of the scamming that went on with playing hide-the-salami during the Frontier sale, that Verizon overstated cost savings and will need to burn another 20% of managers and non-union peeps.

@GX9Foud-pva but that little embarrassing feature only comes out during and after a sale of wireline properties, and always results in layoffs. This scam has raised its head again in the recent sale and will likely require another 20% cut in the manager ranks.

All the union people do is curse and yell SCAB to management. Maybe somebody should look up the definition. By the way the union people crossing the lines can be called SCABS. Why don't you go after them?

The company expressed wireline accounts for 30% of revenues but only 7% of profits. Its becuase wireline pays all the bills. The rest of the company is still living in ma bell's house. Next year the fcc rules that allow these accounting trickery end. At that point we should see just how profitable wireline really is.

I said nothing about the degrees of said union employees. I just observed the grammar of the comments. Case in point: reply below, stating "you have know idea what you are talking about". And my job is perfectly fine with me. Content with my salary and benefit package and grateful I have a job. A job isn't a right. It's a privilege.

@GX9Foud-woy is another weak manager with limited linguistic skills and no talent in writing. This is a classic sign of a fairly new manager. Or, perhaps another H1B troll.

@zcm Totally agree with you. Half of them can't put a full sentence together let alone know the spelling of a word. Maybe since you all have some free time on your hands you can go take an English or writing class instead of writing on this blog and telling everyone how the company can't function without you.

University of Phoenix is accredited . OP conveys exactly what I had observed. Union action simply accelerates it's demise. Good pay for good jobs actually should be communicated as (market) extremely high pay for archaic jobs predominantly associated with loss (no revenue) business units. Union thinks Fios is a cash cow. One of the few profitable (barely)aspects of wireline, it doesn't get much return on investment for cost of fiber expansion on its own.

@GX9Foud what liar! Just like all of the other lowell kool-aid drinkers. Many of the pro-union posts are from managers. What I do find interesting from the posts from milquetoast managers like you is how little knowlege they have about the customers, the business, technology and finances of Verizon. But go right ahead and wow us with your ignorance, and remember, your rif package is coming.
