Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Insurance Coverage for Strikers

There have been questions regarding Verizon's letter to striking CWA members saying that our health care benefits will be discontinued at the end of April should we still be on strike.

Anyone who has a chronic health issue requiring medication treatment or doctor's visits please contact the Local to self identify in the event we are on strike and you will need coverage. Our community services committee will forward information to the National and they will make a determination of wether to cover you or COBRA back as needed. NO MEMBER will be denied necessary health care.

Any non-emergency surgery scheduled after April will not be covered and will need to be rescheduled. No non-emergency medical care will be covered. Please take care of physicals and routine care prior to the end of the month. including dental and eye appointments.

Answers to questions about the affect of loss of coverage as it relates to the AFA (Obama Care) can be found at

ACA is law and you must carry appropriate health insurance or face a tax penalty each month you go without. Subsidies are available for the Obama Care Bronze package, but they base thing on the tax return that you just filed. Elections do have consequences. Thanks for the votes. "No non-emergency medical care will be covered". Followed by "CWA has your back". Oxymoron if I ever saw one.

VZ has great union health benefits. Compare the benefits you receive right now to any other corporation and it's obvious the union has it unbelievable. Y'all need to open your eyes before you get sick and have to pay thousands.

They manage your pensions,

The company manages the pension. Hence the reason the company wants out of that business.

Please educate yourself.

To Cvc,

With Bernie at the helm, everyone will be taking advantage of the local free health clinic. You will join along with his contingency of illegal workers that he is backing. Eventually, they will take your role for the $15 minimum wage that he also supports. Right now, he has no idea what VZ Union people make, he will be appalled when he finds out that burger flippers make $8/hr and wire splicers make $35+/hr. You are all the same to him.

Why doesn't the CWA just start providing health care to it's members? They manage your pensions, why not let them manage your health insurance as well? Why piss around with your employer? Help sever the noose you think is around your neck...

The CWA will cover us for how long? A month? A year? I don't think verizon is ever going to cave on any of their demands. They are already bringing in replacements.

Even if and I do mean IF the CWA decides to pay for your kid's injury after the end of the month. And may God forbid anyone's kid gets hurt of course, treatment will be at the local free clinic as no private doctor or hospital will let you in the door without insurance. I don't seem how any responsible parent would put their family at risk like this.
