Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Just Sayin...

CWW and IBEW are engaged in a legal strike per NLRB.

VZ using existing / pre-trike non-Union employees to cover strikers' work is legal. These employees are not scabs, defined as workers hired specifically to replace strikers.

Verizon cannot, by law, terminate striking workers in a legal strike.

Those employees performing strike duty are vacating their normal role, creating productivity gaps elsewhere in the organization. They are neither committed to or competent in the temporary role they've been assigned. Quality of work and productivity suffers in the back-filled striker role, the vacated Non-Union role, and across organizational processes.

Union demands, if achieved, benefit all VZ workers either directly (as a participating Union employee) or indirectly (through benefit parity, base lining, etc).

Those posting who write that the strikers are overpaid, whiners, don't know how good they've got it, are disposable, etc are simply tools. Tools of VZ Mgt. The Union membership voted to strike, has good reasons to strike and strike now, and if they can stay united as well as have sympathizers (other unionized groups such as AFL-CIO, other trades, restaurant workers, etc) not cross lines, could be successful quickly.

"This is a different company than it was in 2011. I don't see the CWA coming back at all this time. Thought they knew that. Thought that's why they didn't strike when the contract was up. But the CWA leaders, thinking Bernie would save them, sold out our wages for Bernies free publicity. Now Bernies off touring Rome and positioning for his new job (and I don't mean president). And the CWA is left out in the cold. Looks like VZ had deeper pockets after old Bernie counted up his contributions."

Whatever it is you're smoking - We want some!

Agreed! The EWA workers are being harassed and attacked. They aren't even sure what they are doing so why are they being harassed in the first place? it's like 2011 all over again, union needs to get a longer fairer contract and corporate needs to stop trying to be all that it can't be.

The union guys aren't lazy either, you see the EWA guys walking around and chilling out too, try doing physical labor in sh-- weather 8-12-15hr a day in the worst conditions and you'd want to take a nap too!

BINGO! Well said.

The anti-union chatter is laughable.

The union members have exercised their collective RIGHT to strike their employer.

It's -a- tool that they have.

Not the 1st tool.

Just -a- tool.

Due to the current hostile work environment at verizon, it is no surprise that the union used this tool.

Clearly, the company wants to "break the union" and has made this intent crystal clear to it's union represented employees.

While the company has a huge bank account, those checks need approved and tanking the business just to prove you could win the strike won't fly with shareholders. Some bumps in the road you don't recover from.
