Thread regarding AT&T Inc. layoffs

Service Delivery and Assurance ("SD&A") and Technical Field Services ("TFS"), High-Level Exec Departures

First it was Randy Tomlin and now it's Liz Gunn (VP of California SD&A) departing the company under a supposed "retirement" (aka golden handshake). Now SD&A-Core are being merged with BSIM under a new TFS group and U-verse and DirecTV as their own group. What does this mean? Well if you're on the TFS side the Company already has plans in place to sell you and those assets to a 3rd party company. AT&T wants out of the landline business-it's the only way they can become "automated". If you're on the TFS side of the business you should be looking for new employment opportunities within the next few years. AT&T is about to make some huge mistakes.

Gosh, I hope not! Satellite internet is dreadfully slow and unreliable.

I do believe sweet little Randy would like to sell us off but as was stated earlier by another commenter you must have a buyer. What's going on now reminds me of the "old at$t" offering high speed broadband and phone via a little square satellite dish on the side of the house. Word was they were going to put all their competitors out of business, oops. It was part of the reason they went bankrupt and were ripe for being purchased. I see them going down that same path since they purchased Direct TV. I'm sure the eventual plan is to offer everything over satellite.

i work for corporate finance at a Bank, my wife works for AT the company will elect to use a part of the tax code—Section 338(h)(10) that gives more bang from depreciation deductions.

The deal could structured so that The purchase of stock in subsidiaries will be treated for tax reasons as a sell of physical assets such as telephone poles and copper wire. That allows to book a higher value for the depreciation of assets than it would have otherwise, and therefore allows it to depreciate a larger amount for tax purposes, and additional revenues shortfalls , while the estimated savings that the election will allow it to make XX billion more in tax deductions because of the election, also save in taxes by taking deductions on the interest payments on the billion'S to finance the sell of assets

Yeah yeah, AT&T is selling off wireline. Been hearing that for years. CT is the only state that's been sold and that was a unique situation. You guys do realize that in order to sell something you must have a buyer. And before you start in about Frontier, they are not in any shape financially to be purchasing part of another company.
