Wow, this Union situation is a PR mess!! I'm so glad I'm not at VZ anymore. This was handled terribly by the C-suite. To be trending on Twitter, all over the news, discussed on Presidential debates and having Presidential candidates go to strike locations is the kind of publicity the Unions could have only hoped for - what a dumb group of executives to let this mess occur.
Glad I've moved on to another company that treats its employees so much better!!

39,000 union members is nothing to sneeze at. Let's see if there's enough scabs willing to cross the lines at this magnitude. This is a powerful group of employees - the sheer numbers alone is something that VZ's leaders will need to deal with - whether they like it or not. I'm not part of the union - but I've got to respect their tenacity to take on Goliath!!

Just talked to a friend who was union member before. He said most of them are lazy and there are more bad guys than good guys in union which is unlike the other places (Bad guys are everywhere, but most people are decent and nice.) And I think this is the reason he started his own business after he quit union. The only thing Union could do is dragging you down. If you want to be better and have more omoney, please leave the Union. By the way, at least you can save $200/month($2400/year) union due for something more useful.

mjy only to then find out that the wireline assets have been hiding many of the wireless costs since the beginning, just to fool wall street. This is why we have witnessed and will continue to witness large numbers of layoffs after wireline properties are sold. If you arent aware of any of this then you are really not a serious player at Verizon, just another one of the minions.
Yes but the union's business unit is one tiny part of that company. Funny how the union group is the only one that seems to be massively unhappy while the rest of the company is one of the "Best Places to Work". And the union's business unit just happens to be the one dragging down the rest of the company financially.

Right before I left moral was at an all time low. 7 straight years of RIF's, benefits reductions and reorgs (I was in IT) basically made it a burn out zone. When the job market picked up in 2014-2015 I saw more emails say "goodbye and good luck" then I had seen in years
American workers need to wake-up and realize they're at the mercy of big biz. Unions seem old, but it's a dying breed that may need to be awaken by millennials - especially those in roles like IT, call centers and others that are being outsourced to other countries. It's a shame that biz can get away with destroying the US workforce! Most of Bernie's supporters are millennials - so he just might be starting a movement!
Meh, I don't think it matters long term. Every company that has unions has issues like this. Whether it's the airlines or the old phone companies, any of them that have to deal with unions have problems like this.
Unions have outlived their usefulness. They used to really be necessary, but these days they only accomplish letting groups of employees be lazy and overpaid. In this day and age it's unbelievable that a union is actually striking because they don't think their pension and 401k benefits are enough when most people don't get either and even fewer get both. The sense of entitlement is astounding.
@GVK - keep drinking the Big Red Kool-Aid! That's why VZ is dealing with this - too many arrogant folks that are in denial. Employees are silently observing - too afraid to say anything. The next employee opinion survey should be a doozy!!
It's not really a PR mess, most people don't really care about it unless it directly affects them. Most of the general public thinks unions are ridiculous anyway so it doesn't phase them when one of the dinosaur companies that still has unions has an issue.
It's funny, Verizon was ranked one of the Top 25 best companies to work for last year so it seems that most of their employees are pretty happy. Unions always tend to want more than their fair share.
