Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

LockOut

I'm hearing from within that after three weeks Verizon is planning to lockout Union based employees that are striking..........so those who don't want that to happen to them need to strongly consider crossing if they wish to remain employed. Verizon is not messing around this time.

Just a heads up take this information seriously!

It's a whole new ball game!

Lowell your a genius. Then Verizon will really be the most hated company on the world. That is your goal right? Most hated and carries the most debt load?

And then Verizon would get so much good press coverage!

All the millenials would think Verizon was so cool if they locked out all their union workers while making record profits! Go for it Uncle Lowell!

You all know that the strike is just a ploy by the union so the base thinks they are being tough for them. When it all comes down, they'll give and the company will give and we'll be a happy family again.

How would a lockout benefit us? Unemployment is only$574 for 26 weeks and we wouldn't gets severance package. We wouldn't get benefits or anything. Ugh sounds like a lockout is not the best thing. Let's hope for a fair contract

It would seem that Verizon would make out better in a lockout scenario. Unemployment might be available for six months. However, the payout would be nominal compared with their base pay, OT and monthly contributions made by VZ (medical, 401k, etc. Next, the company brings in a replacement team at almost half of the cost and the call center work is sourced with a vendor. Those savings would more than make-up for any unemployment that VZ would be required to pay. In addition, the company would be relieved of its obligation to pay severance to workers who walked off the job. Certain states might not even approve unemployment benefits, but I am far from an expert in labor law. I just think that the Union might not come out ahead of a lockout were to occur.

Yeah, like the previous poster said, the lockout would benefit us. I've been hoping for lockout instead of strike.

Fking idiots only see it their way. Company wont lock them out. Strike is in place. If company locks them out they will have to pay for the unemployement. Yes u collect when company locks you out. AND verizon is self insured. For you idiots out there that means that verizon does not pay into uc fund like most companies do. That means verizon will be paying everyones unemployement from the day they file. It actualy benefits the employee to be locked out.

Im amazed how many stupid people reply on here . First good luck trying to get 40,000 people that actually want to work let alone pass a drug test. Second that 130,000 salary is way off and the hours your gonna work and the work your gonna do is going to send a lot of people packing in the first week so good luck. Dont believe everything you hear idiots.this generation is f$() up this country

No, a lockout in this case is when the guys walk and then the company says, well stay out then. It's a required precursor to hiring temps and if it goes on long enough people can lose their jobs. Not a good thing to be locked out.

Impossible to replace 40,000 workers as fast as Wall Street and shareholders would want you too. This post is Moronic

Ehhhh, why would the company impose a "lockout"? The employees are already staying out voluntarily, so a lockout would serve no purpose. A lockout is when everyone is currently working, but is then forced out by the company, pretty much a reverse strike. If the union wanted to come back, I am sure the company would be fine with it as long as the union agreed to the 30 day notification of a walk out that they had put in place before coming back in 2011. I would say these rumors are BS.

All the those idiot policies are a direct result of the union's idiot rules. So you guys are making the stand for the American worker. With your pensions and company paid benefits that exceed what nearly all of the rest of the private sector get. Get real. Like hyf says there are thousands who would jump at the chance to have these jobs.

That sounds like an encouragement to 40,000 union workers and their extended families, as well as the thousands of managers who have been burned, to give their business to AT&T.

You reap what you sow Verizon has personally damaged everyone who is or was there someone has to stand up for the American worker its at a tipping point unless you want a race to the bottom. How much do they want from us cuts cuts relocates for months at a time, not enough personnel to handle the work load no one wants to work from morning to midnight 7 days a week. Threats of discipline for stoping to eat or using the restroom time off without pay for things out of your control laying of workers for no reason declaring a service emergency the next day and forcing the rest to live there, pay is the only difference between Verizon and prison.

There are plenty of employees ready, willing and able to jump ship from their present employer to work in the field for Verizon. Employees from Cablevision, Charter Communications, Time Warner and the US Postal Service would love to have these jobs. Better hope for mediation before any other action.

We'll all see you running back to work in about 2 weeks with your tail between your legs. Can't wait to see the Union settle after your benefits are terminated.

The work never stops. With so many techs out, its impossible to be slow. Feel sorry for the tech who crosses the picket line because that load he/she gets will be amazing.
